Group Has Sold More Than 2 Mil Disks - Dutch Delight In Dire Straits - Dutch Delight in Dire Straits" (PDF). Indeed, the first five tracks – "Tunnel of Love," "Romeo and Juliet," "Skateaway," "Expresso Love," "Hand in Hand" – comprise a mini-suite united by theme, harmony, and spirit. The mofi version of this album makes you LOVE to just listen to the music, whereas the orig UKs are better to let it spin and rock out to because the detailed instrument separation isn't as accessible to listen to.

After owning several early Canadian copies and one UK copy, this one has more dynamic and energy, with perfect tonal balance and extension on both end. Well just received today from Music Direct and it sounds absolutely stunning on my system (Mofi Studiodeck, Outlaw Audio RR2160MKll, 2 Pioneer CS99-A's 2 Dahli Zenzors, Outlaw Audio M8 Subwoofer, everything under Herbie's tenderfoot except Dahlis on the wall) Perfect pressing! The album's primary single was " Romeo and Juliet" which reached number 8 in the UK singles chart in early 1981. He even went as far as getting Springsteen's piano player Roy Bittan to play lots of sweeping arpeggios and big full chords when needed, and at the very beginning of the album is an extract from Rogers and Hammerstein's The Carousel Waltz, a very Springsteenian theme.I've compared all of these vinyl releases with clean copies and I can definitely say the Mofi beats them all. Thankfully even though they’re too long the songs on here are much more memorable than Brothers In Arms, still kinda boring though at the beginning.

Rolling Stone ranked Making Movies number 52 in their survey of the 100 Best Albums of the Eighties. It appears mine was done at the Toronto plant and have seen decent pressings from there on occasion. The romanticism of Bittan's piano, precision timekeeping of drummer Pick Withers, and steady roll of bassist John Illsley come across with similar potency, scale, and verve.Sometimes I see Rhino and remember their glory days, never even looked to see how recent this one was. Everything sounds the same at a certain point, all of these songs start off good but trail off into nothing of note.

Dire Straits expanded into a quintet when keyboard player Alan Clark and Californian guitarist Hal Lindes were recruited as full-time group members shortly after the album's release in October 1980. Tunnel of Love was a little closer for me comparing the two but still have the give the nod to this release. It’s not a Mofi 45 or UHQR but it’s as good or better than the 33 ⅓ versions that come from those efforts. The other pressings that I know have a litle bit more reverb and here are soundpicture on the dry side and the listeners can come even closer to the music.

I've heard the OG US, this MoFi, the MoFi SACD, the 1996 CD, the BG AAA cut from 2010 (same cut as 2014), and the Japanese SACD and the 1980 US is by far the best. Expansive and cinematic, the aptly titled Making Movies puts a premium on interrelated subjects (love, relationships, heartbreak) and deep-seated emotions that play out in heartfelt lyrics, intense singing, and epic frameworks. He seems to be putting Roy Bittan's piano playing in the spotlight instead of his own guitar on most of the other tracks. The song is filled with romantic projections, though in real life most women would run away from a creepy carnival worker hitting on them. The album's power isn't lost on Iovine, who later told Rolling Stone: "The right people were in the room together.

Knopfler doesn't give his characters names like Springsteen always does ("Rollergirl" is the best he can do) but the storytelling is definitely on a similar path. Making Movies was later certified platinum in the United States and double-platinum in the United Kingdom by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) respectively. Crisp, rich, and balanced, the sound brings Knopfler's Fender Vibrolux and Music Man HD130 amplifiers into your room. However, I just picked one of these up used from the LRS in new condition, ultrasonic cleaned it in a double cycle, played it and was very happy with the purchase.Objectively speaking, it's nothing revolutionary but it's a neat collection of songs that are somewhat different in tones and moods. The album was remastered and reissued on CD with the rest of the Dire Straits catalogue in 1996 internationally, and on 19 September 2000 in the United States.
