This review is based on my experience with the Lagerfeld Classic Aftershave in the splash bottle as opposed to the EDT. My current collection is small YSL L'Homme,Armani Diamonds,Lanvin L'homme,Beckham Homme,Dior Sauvage,Cuba Prestige Platinum,Cuba Gold,Cuba Blue,Aeropostale Maximum and Lagerfeld Classic and my wife's two fav's are YSL L'homme and Lagerfeld Classic so find the original formulation not that orange looking garbage that is no were near the quality of the original and you won't regret it. That same aroma is the very first thing I can smell when someone walks into the room wearing Lagerfeld or when I spray it on my forearm. Not in your face boss like aventus but more like "I've got control of my surroundings and I don't need to explain it". This incredible fragrance doesn't smell much like anything else besides Shalimar with maybe a bit of the animalic notes in Kouros.

Now that I've had this for well over a year (see my review below) I want to add a few notes for those considering a purchase. And, as he says, Classic is enjoyed best as a composition rather than trying to dissect individual notes. Once I was wearing this, two people complained they were having a headache because they were smelling incense, and while they probably thought that smell was coming from somewhere else, I think the smell they were referring to was this fragrance. Alas, none of my men really wore it, as it was popular with the gay crowd (how I found it), and only for the really confident straight man. Famous for being in Tony Montana's bathroom in "Scarface", this retro fragrance is all caramel, jasmine, orange and sweet leather.The warmer and more sensual side emerges, the vanilla flirts with oakmoss, but the relationship is passive-aggressive. I see a guy with gelled hair and a mustache and he's driving the kids to school in the station wagon. Second update- so my little old style art deco font bottles arrived and my god it goes on smoooooth where as the new goes on like a cat in a bag. Not only it is one of the best cost-efficient amber fragrances on the market, but it’s also the one that had endured passing trends.

The bass player in my band back in the 1980s used to wear the original version of this, and it smelled delicious on him. Actually, it has no sillage at all and after a few minutes, it turns into a nondescript dull cheap scent for which even one euro I would find too much to pay. I immediately went to my local perfumery and bought the biggest bottle I could afford and wore it as my signature scent for many years. I had gotten the perfume last June, blindly bought this, expecting somehow what follows; but after unboxing and a quick sniff, I realised it was more suitable for the humid and cold autumn months. However, wearing it for myself is fine - it was like being in a warm embrace of calm self-assurance.Very intensive heavy smoky - with strong sweet blend of musk,amber, tobacco, smoke plum, tonka beans, aldehyds. Must be a particular concept of masculinity (applied in several other male scents), these days of so widepread health awareness very outdated. My grandfather and my father used to wear this frequently, classic scent, but i guess after several reformulations not the performance that it had back in the day. The heart is composed of cedarwood, intense and sweet jasmine, iris, patchouli, rose, sandalwood and tobacco. Yes, because for this perfume, Karl Lagerfeld chose the same bottle, here in the smoky grey version, used for the Classic and Photo.

There is sage and just a bit of lemon in the opening, but mainly I get a great very dry tobacco, not sweet pipe tobacco.If l had to sum this fragrance up in a few simple words it's "a riddle,wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma" and it plays by it's own rules. And that's saying a lot because my skin burns fragrance like an old Lincoln with the a/c running burned gas.
