My first readers were all about Mary, Mike and Jeff, their dog was named Bolo or something along those lines and their cat was Velvet. I run a busy household and smallholding alongside my work with Silversurfers, which currently includes dogs, fish, hens, ducks and pigs!

After the books fell out of fashion they became a target for ridicule on the basis of their stilted diction and overwhelmingly middle-class content. Using limited vocabulary, the books were based around the daily lives of a brother and sister with words frequently repeated, the idea was that children would memorise them and therefore read. I think Janet and John should be brought back to re-introduce the idea of how homely, simple and gentle life was back then! The nature of their adventures has been altered too, although simplicity and repetition remain the key to their charm.In the new books, which have been written jointly by a Cambridge University educationalist and a reception class teacher, the naive duo are brought back to tread a cautious path through the many cultural and technological influences that surround twenty-first century infants. Ding Li and A-li - our wonderful teacher (a chinese citizen) had picked up on what we students thought of them and used to refer to them as ('nerdy swots' hahahahaha! Finally, Etsy members should be aware that third-party payment processors, such as PayPal, may independently monitor transactions for sanctions compliance and may block transactions as part of their own compliance programs. The books are high up on my shelves right now so I’ll have to wait until someone can reach them down for me! I was really pleased to win one of the books (although, of course, I had to leave it behind when I left).
