While isolated, it is a truly unique and fascinating style, but within the story, it made for an overly-ambitious, messy and chaotic experience. But with The Joker along for the ride, Batman's guaranteed to face terrifying challenges as they follow a trail that leads to their common enemy. That honor went to Jody and to say he wasn't thrilled about by the time the series ended is a bit of an understatement. My favorite comic stories are usually straight-forward, especially lately when it seems everyone wants to make stories as complex as possible (as in confusing and hard to understand most of the time.

Die beiden sind gezwungen, zusammenarbeiten, um ihren Peiniger rechtzeitig zu finden - und folgen dabei Hinweisen durch die größten Metropolen Europas. The Joker has also gone through some significant changes over the last ten years, making this version of him seem a tad too predictable—which is a really strange feeling to have about this character. Seeing Batman and Joker walking to the Colosseum lit up at night was really cool - I guess the clue for where the story was headed was in the virus name, Colossus/Colosseum? Interestingly, to reflect their decaying minds and bodies, the artwork devolves and roughens throughout the book.He doesn't usually subscribe to the "you two need each other to exist" philosophy and I don't understand why he would have an interest in that out of nowhere. It's just an album of cool, interesting artwork in different locations across Europe with a bit of trivia about them and very flimsy storyline, which had potential to be quite good actually. Matteo Casali and Brian Azzarello seem intent to show off their knowledge of Berlin and then have to hurry to finish up the issue. When he traces the Batcomputer’s hack that warns him of the dose to Berlin, he finds Joker is already one step ahead of him in discovering the hacker–because he’s infected too. This is the dynamic that this story explores and I think it's fair to say that there is an evident mutual respect between the two here.

The Dark Knight is finally facing an enemy that even he can t defeat a deadly, custom-engineered virus that will drive him mad and then kill him within a week. Jim Lee pencils and finishes the first issue, drawing Berlin beautifully, taking the reader through the city’s history. The story is trying to answer the question of whether Batman will sacrifice himself to stop the Joker. I had initially planned to pick up Batman: Europa in single issues, but decided not to once I discovered that Jim Lee would only be drawing the first issue. While I love the room they’ve allowed for the art to breathe, some people might feel like not a whole lot happens here when you consider this is 25% of the whole story. Hopefully it demonstrates that fans want more content featuring these two teaming up and actually getting something done.

Layouts from Giuseppe Camuncoli are absolutely stand-out: clear, bold storytelling that focuses on the visuals, which is something Casali and Azzarello support with a rather spare script. Aside from the terrible team up of Batman and Joker, a lack of time spent with the cities that the story takes place in and just the overall flawed premise of those two things combined; there’s still more that’s poorly executed with this book. Future artists providing stunning overlay paints will include Diego Latorre (Dante's Inferno) and Jock (Detective Comics), with the first issue painted by none other than Jim Lee! He is the author of JONNY DOUBLE, BATMAN: BROKEN CITY and the Harvey and Eisner Award-winning 100 BULLETS, all created in collaboration with artist Eduardo Risso. I am not sure when the artwork was done (whether it was closer to 2004 or 2016) but it is beautifully drawn/painted.Not that they are sightseeing or anything, but it is nice to see some familiar landmarks as the backdrop to their investigations. It seems that she was hired to hack into the Batcomputer and that will lead us to the next issue and Prague. The banter between them is truly intriguing and continuously stimulates your curiosity as you feverishly scratch your heard trying to figure out whose behind everything. All of it, however, was absolutely beautiful, especially the various landscapes and landmarks of Europe.

I guess this one has been in the works for a while as Jim Lee's cover says 2010 and it was just collected at the end of 2016. I think it is fair to say that although these two are sworn enemies and will forever be, they need each other. You miss the Joker–remember when he was so awfully cool and you just enjoyed watching Batman catch him and beat him in the face repeatedly? It’s extremely dark and reminded me of Dave McKean’s work in Arkham Asylum, the book he did with Grant Morrison in the ‘80s. We had a kick ass battle with the surprise twist of an antagonist and Batman questioning if he should just let go and die.In attesa dell'uscita a Lucca del Compendium di Batman Europa, ecco un'altra tavola dipinta di Batman Europa 2 (2016). The different visuals were intriguing to some extent, but they often left a lot to desire upon reaching the end. The story stagnates occasionally as we get a history lesson at each new location, but I didn’t find that troublesome. Who infected Batman, what does the Clown Prince of Crime know, and how will the Dark Knight get that information?
