Isolation is actually quite good so long as you get a good seal. Once a seal is made there is very minimal sound leakage as well as pretty nice attenuation of outside noises. Certainly, these are not meant for stage use but for casual listening so this isn’t the greatest priority for most people purchasing the Dunu Kima Classic. Vivid, Lively Sound Profile:-The primary difference between the Kima and the Kima Classic is the new tuning profile for the pair. The OG Kima had a balanced sound output with a hint of warmth, the new Kima Classic has an increased presence for the lower-end and high-frequency regions bringing in a more vivid sound signature that complements Pop music well!! Resolution capability-wise, it has a solid macro-dynamics and satisfactory micro-detail retrieval. It has rather a balanced resolution that I can't categorise as either sharp or blunted. Tonal colour of KIMA is more organic with a hint of brightness. In a soft profile, the bass to midrange roll-off is also soft, and the Kima is a clear example. The result is a pleasing sensation made up of a good composition of body, weight, density, clarity and transparency. The mid-high emphasis is measured so that the balance is enjoyable, engaging and absorbing. It is neither bright, nor warm, although both qualities can be present, without conditioning the sound.

Three sets of S/M/L silicon tips. Two of the sets are fairly similar generic silicon tips of varying hardness in the center nozzle. The last however is what DUNU calls their Stage & Studio (S&S) tips. It’s essentially a gray tube. I’m not a fan. Aria needs a tad more power output compared to KIMA which you need to crank a volume output a bit. As for tonality, both have a U-shaped sound profile. Aria has more bass but it doesn't have a clean bass response, midrange is even recessed compared to Kima as it is too lean in my liking (I'm very critical towards KATO and KXXS because of this inherent leanness on midrange). And treble of Aria is indeed unrefined as it has peaky upper mids and yet it sounds uneven with instances of being tinny sounding then a subdued treble air. The shape is very good and once fitted, the capsules rest very well in my ears. The overall mouthpiece projection, like the length of the set, is on the shallow end. I don't know if it's the angle, but I found it difficult to find tips with which to achieve an occlusive seal, without loss of bass. On this occasion, I had to resort to the most normal silicone tips, size L (13.5mm outer diameter), with an inner core of 4.5mm. The core is long and supports the mouthpiece a bit further, the insertion is shallow and relatively fragile, not very suitable for use in movement, just walking or very gentle activities. On the instrumental level, everything fits together, as do the voices. The timbre is certainly natural, a little dry, because there is no brightness, but restrained. This limits its expressiveness or eloquence, but does not diminish its transparency or clarity. The thrust of the details is neat, perspicuous and the level achieved in this aspect is remarkable, without the presentation being analytical or cold. This is a good example of the relationship between weight, density, resolution, detail and transparency. It is possible to have a remarkable degree of all these skills, but without the sound becoming unnatural. It is the great example of neutrality, homogeneity and balance.

MidrangeThe midrange experiences some spill-over from the bass region. Notably in the lower-midrange as it is warmer in that area of the mix than it isn’t. I only bring this up in comparison to the original Kima. There would be no reason to even add this to the review if not for the OG because this is a very normal thing to see. Granted, Dunu tuned the Dunu Kima Classic with a nice downslope into the mids. A nice cut-off for a V-shaped set. The sound is still very clean and reasonably resolute. Yet, for those of us who have heard the OG and enjoyed that extra clarity in regions like the lower-mids I just wanted to make the distinction. Upper-MidrangeFemales are an entirely different animal. They sound more forward than males. Partially due to the rise in the upper-mids & lower treble area. The DKC actually has a striking resemblance to the Tripowin Olina yet with a slightly more bodied female vocal and also slightly less resolute. Very close though. Elle Goulding‘s beautiful rendition of “ How Long Will I Love You” is so sweetly shimmery with a softness that somehow is resounding. I’ve heard better in the price range, but I adore the way the rest of the instrumentation plays around her perfectly up front vocal. There are moments when the bass digs deep on this song and doesn’t even come close to adding a veil as her voice cuts through with a forward and soft vibrance. I think the DKC has a nicely measured lift in this area that gives a slight sense of sparkle. In technicalities, the older OG Kima is a tinge weaker, with a smaller soundstage and less defined imaging and micro-details. Instrument separation is similar. The OG Kima also sounds more boring, with less dynamics heard.

In the mids, there is a surprise for me. I thought that the more emphasised and longer low end was going to influence more the first half of the T4 Plus, however the weight of the higher and longer plateau between mid-high and first treble has more influence. In a way, I find this phase thinner and brighter, whereas in the Kima it is more natural, dense, full and organic, I find its timbre more pleasing to me. The result is a smoother, more mellow sound in the Kima, where nothing feels excited. The T4 Plus, on the other hand, is higher in the treble, which makes it more crisp. While this extension may be welcomed by many, I prefer the musicality of the Kima. Left to Right: Fiio UTWS5 / Shanling M6 Ultra / Moondrop Danw 4.4 / iBasso DX240 / Hidizs S9 Pro Gear used for testing– Fiio UTWS5 Why make a Classic Version? During the process of research and development on the Kima, with some personalized modifications, the sound becomes more suitable for pop music. In terms of sound aesthetics, The sound of the Kima Classic will have a new, fresh flavor. The main difference between the Kima and Kima Classic is the more pronounced lower end and enhanced high-frequency region as well. But the overall changes are throughout the frequency band, it has a cleaner and transparent signature as the OG Kima. Features:- DUNU Kima Classic is a redesigned variant of the award-winning DUNU Kima. At a fair glance, the pair looks just like Kima in a new color scheme, but the sound of the Kima Classic brings a new, fresh flavor to the listeners. DUNU has readjusted the tuning of the pair to deliver a more pronounced lower-end, more lively treble, and a cleaner midrange response. While the shell shape is kept the same, the new Kima Classic has got a wonderful new Classic Coffee Grey color theme. The cable has been designed to match the smokey look of the pair!! Kima was a wonderful set, Kima Classic brings a breath of fresh air to the lineup with a new tuning profile!!Midrange InstrumentsFor the most part instruments come across well defined. This is a V-shaped iem and the midrange is smoother than sharp. Resolution is nice for a V-shape, but isn’t perfect, and this can cause a few minor clarity issues as far as instrumentation is concerned. For the most part though, instruments all sound organic and pretty darn clean. While retaining the praised look of the OG Kima, the new Kima Classic has a new color scheme for its shells. The pair has a beautiful coffee grey color scheme with a golden ear nozzle. The ear shells here are crafted using high-precision melting and casting molds. They are then finished with a specially selected sandblasting process giving them a nicely textured finish!! Color-Matched Cable Shielding:-

Build / AestheticThe build quality of the DKC is a bit better than the Olina though that is very much up for debate. They are both well-built and both look great. I am not partial to either set here. The cable that comes with the DKC is much better as well as the other accessories. The Olina is a bit harder to drive to good fidelity. Well, scratch that, actually the Olina can simply keep taking power and it seems that it just keeps upgrading, and it’s a chameleon to any source as well. Both sets can sound nice on just about any device. Both sets fit me fine, but the Olina does have the edge here. pin housings like in the Kima Classic are always welcome in my book, as I encountered a lot of MMCX failures with budget IEMs, especially with frequent cable swapping.CONCLUDING REMARKSThe Dunu Kima are competent in terms of tuning, come with excellent accesories, have a great build, and the price is not too absurd. The Kima has a distinct pinna gain region centered at around 2.5 kHz. There is not as much vertical separation between male vocals and dense instrumentation as I would like. With that said, the Kima does a good job of balancing between the two and not burying distorted electric guitar riffs beneath harsh male vocals. Analog percussion fares less well in terms of overall emphasis but avoids timbral compression, which is a win for the Kima. There is a tinge of boominess to male vocals
