The flow of hot and cold water around the van should then be constant and smooth. Cleaning the tank A high-quality handover will include a thorough test of the stare systems By comparison, the pressure reducing valves connect directly to the caravan, and if they begin to leak internally then as has been stated already that will allow the static head pressure of the mains water to be applied to the caravans pipe work. If the various Pressure Relief Valves (PRV's) normally associated with water heaters, but in teh event of a catastrophic Pressure reduction valve failure its would likely exceed the flow capacity of the PRV's and pressure in teh water system could build up to dangerous levels beyond the pressure rating of the appliance's and fittings. To operate the Whale Aquasource, turn on the motorhome’s control panel and press the down arrow until you see the ‘Freshwater filling’ symbol. Press Enter. The ‘Start filling the tank’ message will appear, and you can connect the Aquasource hose. A smart fix for this, devised by DIY guru Rod Farrendon, makes use of a product called Pipesnaps. These are rigid, split plastic tubes, designed to be clipped on to household pipes for decorative purposes. You have two options here: you can attach the standard short length of hose to direct the water into a grey-water carrier (which needs to be emptied every day); or you can fit a longer hose, which reaches all the way to your pitch drain. The second option is more convenient if you’re on a fully serviced pitch. Drinking water These days, efficient water supply makes a caravanning break even more relaxing

Now, caravanners can experience a range of potential issues with submersible water pumps, which I’ll discuss below. On some occasions, it may be due to pump failure. With a direct feed via a pressure reducing valve, you only need a particle of debris to get across its valve seat for the van's pipework to be subjected to the mains pressure. Water is effectively not compressible, when static everything sees the supply pressure. Through lifting the diaphragm up and down, suction is created along with positive pressure on the outlet. These days, combi heating systems are most popular, and they are efficient, heating both the water and the internal space (hence the name) throughout the caravan.

However, sometimes the issue is with the pump and water pipe. Therefore, I wanted to briefly cover the different types of water pumps used in caravans and motorhomes. On one pitch, in France, we found that the water system was somewhat ‘industrial’ and the pressure so high, it kept blowing the pump connection out of the side of the van. In this case, turn the tap until the flow is reduced to a compatible level and all will be well. Water heating Whilst surfing the net, I came across a neat little DIY alternative to the flexible ‘push fit’ filler pipe, it will fit almost any water tap, can handle extreme water pressure so you can fill up in record time and will not come flying out of the filler hole in the water container. Want see how to make a diy Aquaroll filler tube for yourself? Then read on. How to make yourself a DIY Aquaroll Filler Tube Step 1: A water pipe simply connects from one side of the pump to the Aquaroll. They are normally used on motorhomes as they can be linked up to large onboard water storage tanks. If you have no hot water, you may want to read my post through that link. I hope you found this post useful and you’re able to get your tap working again.

Every few years, the heating power of these devices has increased, from 2kW to 4kW to 6kW, and now there’s a high-powered 8.7kW system from Alde. The control panel allows you to select the power source, although the highest output usually requires both gas and electricity. Generally, fixing a pressure switch on a caravan or motorhome is not a DIY job. Its probably something your service centre is going to have to assist with. The scenario you describe where regardless of the source of the water the caravan floods is indicative of faulty pipework in the caravan and not of the difference between a pressure reducer or a floatation valve in a water barrel, and both would have the same outcome. Yes, you can continue to return items as normal as long as you follow the government guidelines about leaving your house. Some luxury caravans have an onboard water tank, which needs to be filled with clean water. Depending on the size of the vehicle, these vary from around 40 litres upwards.

This will increase your fuel consumption and might affect handling, especially if it is located towards the rear of the caravan, where the ‘pendulum effect’ is most potent. This is a simple procedure – fill the tank or plug in your water source (a water-carrier or waterline), then, with each hot-water tap open in turn (or mixer taps switched to the hot setting), turn on the water pump. The heater holds up to 15 litres of water, so might take a minute or so to fill. On a couple of occasions, with the water tap fully opened, the water pressure was that high that the hose would come flying off the tap, so I had to turn the tap down and stand there for ages waiting for the Aquaroll to fill, not much fun in the pouring rain let me tell you! Also, it wasn’t always possible to position the Aquaroll close to the water tap (as shown in the picture above) so with the pipe fully stretched I would have to hold the end of the filler pipe to stop it coming out of the Aquaroll. On a super pitch the waste water container is replaced by a length of corrugated hose that connects directly from the waste outlet of the caravan to a drain point on the pitch. Care is needed to ensure a gentle fall from the caravan to the drain, otherwise the water will flow very slowly. Be aware that there are two sizes of waste hose used so make sure you get the correct diameter for your caravan, typically 28.5mm diameter, but some caravans may still use a 23.5mm diameter hose. When all of the cold water has drained away, turn the taps to the hot setting; in this way, the maximum amount of water will be evacuated. So changing from the Truma Ultraflow to the Whale submersible water pump is fine for some caravans and motorhomes.
