On the headband there is a foam padding, which prevents pressure pain as far as possible and allows wearing the headphones for a long time. In the case of the 58x, its flaws, while apparent, don’t ruin the experience for me when I’m just listening to it on its own. This review is not intended to be a shootout between the HD6XX and the HD58X. Both have their right to exist. point. Nevertheless the comparison is obvious. The HD58X radiates more energy and also has the slightly better extension in the low frequency range. Due to the clearer focus on the upper mids due to the somewhat restrained lower treble range compared to the HD6XX, the absolute balance gets a bit lost, but still, the HD58X strives for a neutral sound with a slight warmth.

Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee review - SoundGuys

The bass in these headphones is one of the best, if not THE best I have heard from any pair of headphones at this price! These performance issues also depict an overall lower level of fidelity from the HD58X that is closer to the HD558/598 than its HD6X0 counterparts. If you’re super sensitive to it as I am, you’ll find that it sits nicely in the mix without sounding essy or sibilant; an issue in other headphones like the 400 series from HIFIMAN, M40x, DEVA, etc. What’s interesting about this headphone is that you can’t really tell it’s flawed until you put it up against a perfectly tuned headphone like Sennheiser’s HD560S. We’ve got the standard 2-pin termination into each of the cups, and a 3.5mm at the business end + 1/4″ adapter. It’s probably a slightly above-average choice here all things considered. Soundstage, Gaming, and Film By the time you get it to how you want the 58X to sit on your head, the cups may not be perfectly symetrical with all the bending of the headband you did. I started to use the HD58X with a Sound BlasterX G6, which is a very neutral and linear amp. The sound was great, I found it to be really enjoyable.

The Soundstage is super wide, and you’ll hear pretty much any and every sound you could possibly imagine in-game. However, if you already own a HD558/598 or any of the latest iterations of those headphones, the HD600/HD650 is still the direct upgrade. Existing fans of the HD580/HD600/HD650 need not apply here. Soundstage: HD598 > HD650 = HD58X > DT990 (again I felt the DT990 were slightly less wide than the HD 58X) I come from a Sennheiser Momentum (Over-Ear 2.0) which has a slightly warm but very faithful sound IMO. The main difficulty these run into is the existence of the HD600 and HD6XX, though it can in either case, be an addition.

Clamping force is good, there’s hardly any headband dig, and you can wear them for long hours with minimal adjustments. It’s just a smidgen narrower than a 560S, but by and large the Soundstage on these 2 is pretty comparable.

Extra Notes: In terms of EQ, these take EQ extremely well. The driver doesn’t distort at all from my experience, and you can literally put a bass shelf on these with absolutely no issues. These can turn into a v shape headphone if you want, so in terms of EQ, these are absolutely killer. These take treble boosts as well with no issues. Overall they are great in terms of EQ. For music production these are also quite good, as they are very balanced, although the darker treble response is a slight issue with music production. Playlist: Here! Keep in mind total hours will always exceed what you see on Spotify as I don’t add every single song I listen to. Amplification: Following build is power requirements and amplification. These are mostly easy to drive, but they aren’t the easiest headphones in the world to drive. For certain forms of media, they won’t get loud enough. Music will be perfectly fine on a phone, but YouTube and other media with inconsistent volume normalization won’t always be loud enough. You can run these off of most sources just fine, but certain game console controllers might not get loud enough with these. An amp gives these more then enough power though, even something without a ton of power like a fiio e10k. You could definitely damage your ears with almost any desktop amp on these. There is not too much to add to the description of the HD6XX, because besides the sonic similarities they share the structural ones. With the 58X, you’ll notice everything just seems a bit louder, with a little more oomph and sparkle.

Sennheiser HD58X

The 1.8m/6ft cable supplied with the HD 58X Jubilee headphones is detachable and made with ... [+] oxygen-free copper. The cable can be swapped out for a 2.5mm balanced version. Drop Fortunately, everything else is mostly right, which is what has allowed me to keep these on my head almost indefinitely since I received them. The HD600 is a little more resolving and has a better less closed in soundstage. Mids are better on it as well. They beat these (slightly) in overall resolution, detail, clarity, and soundstage. It's not a big difference, but they get more detail and resolution. Overall sound sig is very similar. The 58X may actually be better because it has that spicy flavor that makes the film more lively and engaging. If I could use an analogy, the sound of the 58X is like a photograph that has just a hair too much contrast.
