Description

Multi functional, this grinder can be used for anything from cold brew (course) to espresso (fine). The adjustment ring has a course and fine adjust setting allowing you to further dial in your grind. A picture of various settings starting in the upper left corner at setting 1A, and bottom right corner ending at 31I Overall, it’s a beautiful although polarising design. It doesn’t look like any other grinder on the market. The Baratza Sette 270Wi is more alike than it is different from the 270. However, it does offer one improvement to the 270’s design: a weight-based grinding system that will give you even more accurate doses of espresso. This is the grinder for you if you’re an experienced home barista looking to make specialty coffees in your own kitchen.

However, Baratza has given some grinding tips for some of the famous brewing methods that we’ve mentioned below for the Sette series. Brew Method Both of these popular grinder models offer macro and micro-adjustments for grind size, but the Sette slightly outperforms the Vario. The Vario has 10 macro steps and 23 micro-adjustments for a total of 220 grind settings. The Sette has 31 macro adjustments and a stepless micro-adjustment for infinite grind settings. If you’re an experienced barista that really wants to fine-tune their recipes, the stepless micro adjustment gives the Sette an edge.

Alternate Grinders

The design is also why the Sette is one of the grinders with the lowest retention. Having as close tozero retentionas possible is ideal when it comes to home espresso. In the event of a software update, it can be installed wirelessly via the integrated Bluetooth using Apple phone or tablet. When making espresso, it’s essential not to have clumps in your grinds, and the Sette models create incredibly fluffy grounds, which makes distribution a breeze. The grind setting is a crucial differentiating factor and an important feature for the Sette 30 and 270 because it is the heart of any coffee grinder.

The Sette 270 is the mid-level model in Baratza’s Sette series. The Sette series was hotly anticipated during the eight years it was being perfected, and sprung on to the scene in 2017 to widespread acclaim. Baratza is a big name in the coffee industry. It is not an all-encompassing company, making different types of brewing tools for different uses. It specializes in one important task of coffee brewing only: grinding. You have two options for grinding. You can grind directly into a dosing cup, which they include, or use the portafilter holder to cradle your portafilter as it grinds. This is great because it allows your grinder to be truly multi functional. Don't want a dedicated espresso grinder? You are covered. Want some of the features of a dedicated espresso grinder? They more than have you covered with the way the assembly works. If you’re an extreme coffee enthusiast, you’ve likely already heard of Baratza. Founded in 1999 and now owned by the Breville Group, Baratza is known for innovative, high-quality, user-friendly coffee grinders, such as the Vario, the Forte, and the Estatto. Many of their grinders feature weight-based grinding and easy-to-use macro/micro-adjustments. Half a pound isn’t a large capacity. In a home environment, though, this is probably plenty for your needs. Differences Baratza 270Wi Weight-Based Dosing Included with each grinder is a plastic anti-static dosing container. The Sette also comes with adjustable portafilter holding arms, and with the recent refresh, so does the Vario. You can easily grind into the included bin or directly into your portafilter. Differences

Beyond that, they are exactly the same the size. Both are 5 inches wide and 9.5 inches deep. They are compact grinders that are excellent for homes with small kitchens or crowded counters. Hopper Size It would be nice to have the pulse button that some of the other Baratzas have bypassing the timer function, just turns the grinder on as long as you hold down the button. The Sette coffee grinders are some of my favorite machines, but the Smart Grinder Pro is a close second. Should You Get the Sette 270Wi?A built-in convertible holder allows you to grind directly into your portafilter, the supplied grounds bin, or most of the popular brewing devices (Hario, Clever, Able Kone, Aeropress) – a standout feature amongst all other home grinders. The Sette 270 grounds bin is made from an anti-static plastic, with a moulded spout for easy pouring into your preferred brewing device. The portaholder can accommodate any size of portafilter and includes an integrated hook for stability. Hopper

The Sette Series is designed with a small footprint (like our other models) that fits under standard kitchen cabinets. In this section, you will come across an in-depth comparison of these two grinders and we have divided it into three sections for better understanding. Grind Settings Buttons and display are cheaper feeling. They get the job done, but with a fairly elegant design I think they could have done a better job with the buttons. The other downside is the noise level, which is a tradeoff for the value. Noise doesn’t affect your coffee’s taste, but it might not be worth it for some. RecommendationThe Sette’s grounds bin is made from an anti-static plastic, with a molded spout for easy pouring into your preferred brewing device. It has a usable capacity of 160g (Med Roast). ACAIA - (WEIGHT-BASED DOSING) Burst Mode: A common frustrating experience on the 270W is under-dosing. If a 270W stops short of its target dose, the user is unable to “top off” the grind without zeroing out weight readings. If the W i stops early, but within 5g of the target, it will enter Burst Mode. When in this mode, each press of the START button runs the motor for 0.1 second. This function can be used indefinitely until the portafilter is removed or the STOP button is pressed. Burst Mode allows the home barista to grind more coffee incrementally, ‘topping off’ from 16-19.8g up to 20g.
