R eally enjoyed this gripping , intrigue-packed thriller set in a seemingly idyllic wellness retreat. Through the chapters written from Jemma’s point of view, we get to see what happened during the retreat in Gozo. Fran's quirky character was well developed and I enjoyed the supporting characters of the other wellness retreat attendees. Tom Wade and his wife Kate used to run wellness retreats under the name SoulShrink, for people unhappy with some aspect of their lives. This book works with just a few main parts and the three alternating perspectives because the concept itself isn't that complex.

She hears he’s been released and running a new retreat so books Fran a place on it so that she can investigate just what happened to her. I am a fan of CL Taylor’s books, but this story reminded me of one of those songs that a band releases after a few successes, one that feels hurried in its writing and slightly tired, maybe sliding from the quality camp to the quantity camp. She is focused on success, complete with all the trappings, and God help anyone who gets in her way.First it builds it's base and makes sure the reader is cozy but it often drops little hints at what's to come and then the pace starts moving faster. He has just been released from prison after serving time for the deaths of two individuals who attended the same retreat where Jenna went disappeared. I read one CL Taylor book a while back, and from what I remember the two are very similar in terms of pacing and how it constantly leaves the reader on edge.

Jenna is the sweet sister who attended the retreat where so many strange and unexplainable things started to occur incessantly as like she’s been trapped into a classic claustrophobic Christie story! It was a truly entertaining to be witnessed of their power game as if watching a challenging tennis game !

This isn't a novel where you're going to be trying to put the pieces together or analyzing every event, but it is one where you'll get really intriguing monologues from the few characters. Thanks to the pressure and guilt tripping of her miserable parents who lost rest of their sanities after sudden disappearance of their young daughter, Fran attends to the same retreat because the same health guru couple Tom and Kate reopen the place after Tom has been set free from two years long prison time. You can see how brittle and strained things are between them which is heightened after Tom's prison release. As we do not find out the circumstances of what actually happened until later in the book, I found myself warming to Tom although was constantly on my guard, looking for clues as to what it was that he was actually hiding. Told in alternating timelines, then and now, from both Jenna's and Fran's point of view, plus one of the wellness guru's perspective, this is a fast paced thriller. I really enjoyed Fran’s personality and familial hang-ups, but failed to connect with any of the other character’s. Then the revelations keep coming as each character comes under suspicion, but their motives don’t make sense either. Well CL Taylor has done it again, another addictive and twisty thriller than kept me guessing right until the very end. Kate is Tom’s wife, a pushy woman who has stood by him throughout his time in prison and feels that he owes it to her to continue with his work.L. Taylor books prior to this and I have always found her writing engaging and addictive but there was something missing from this outing. Another excellent gripping novel that will have you racing through the pages to find out what is going to happen. Fran is a woman with a strong personality who has been suppressing her emotions and distancing herself from other people for years. Registering under a false name, she discovers three of the other participants were also at the Gozo retreat, but understandably no one wants to talk about it. Her Last Holiday is a psychological suspense drama about a woman looking for answers following the death of her younger sister at a “Wellness Retreat”.
