About this deal

Using Fuji's X-E2, I can see a lot of inspiration from Leica, and respect for that kind of shooting experience in general. I won’t name them, but for the most part, they’ve got about as much character as the wine I’m drinking. So when I say that the X-E2 can mimic a similar rangefinder experience to my Leica's, I know what I'm talking about (using the settings I've noted earlier in this review). I did not understand it at first, might not have even noticed my own reaction (since, more often than not, I can’t afford being surprised by something), but after relying so much on an optical viewfinder – be that of the rangefinder Kiev 4AM, my digital Nikon body or medium format Mamiya RZ67 – that EVF feels weird. Choosing your aperture, shutter speed, ISO setting, and manually focusing for every shot really engages you in the process.

I’d be interested to hear about peoples experiences of the the kit lens, particularly at the top end.

FPS mode claims it can focus and change exposure between frames, while at 7 FPS it locks focus and exposure with the first frame. from what you wrote, I would be inclined to think you did not really understand my thoughts and the issues I am having. And so in no way am I saying I bought the wrong camera, the wrong system, and compact camera systems are not for me. Exceptionally sharp and undistorted images, due to no anti-alias filter on the sensor and super-sharp lenses, just like LEICA.

At the same time, it's actually much lighter than a first glance might suggest, weighing in at 350g body only with the battery and memory card fitted, a full 100g lighter than the X-Pro1. Note that both the focus and the exposure are set according to the first frame in each series, so it's not a particularly good system for tracking fast-moving subjects in varied lighting conditions, Thankfully the camera doesn't lock up completely for a long time if you shoot the maximum number of images in a burst, allowing you to continue shooting after just a few seconds.

The LCD screen has a handy Info view which presents all of the key settings at once, or you can switch to the Standard or Custom Live View modes, with the latter offering 14 customisable options (these are also used for the electronic viewfinder). No worries, the proper way to use the manual focus mode is to tap the AFL button to spot-focus as needed; not to use the focus ring. The X-E2 has image quality and lenses more like my LEICA M9 or M 240 than any DSLR, and it's smaller and lighter than any DSLR — or LEICA M.

second), so once you have set the focus, you'll never miss the moment because the camera can't fire the shutter quickly enough, shot-to-shot time of 0. The new X-E2 is almost a completely different camera now, especially in terms of eliminating irritating issues and simplifying the UI/menu system. The X100T has a much quieter leaf shutter which allows the flash to sync all the way up to its top speed, letting the built-in flash provide great daylight fill.First, the Fn2 button that I mentioned above can be programmed to perform many different menu functions. Reproduction in whole or part in any form or medium without specific written permission is prohibited. Maximum speed with flash ( sync): Rated 1/180, but I never saw the camera shoot above 1/140 with flash in daylight.

As I've mentioned before, Fujifilm are to be commended for their comprehensive and feature adding firmware updates. With X-E2, for example, the EVF shows an image that is less representative of the captured photograph than the LCD at the back – for one thing, colours seem to be a tad cooler, not to mention the affect direct sunlight has on the contrast and perceived luminance of the image. I have also mainly used aperture priority with exposure compensation for around the last 30 years and not many pictures get away. I still found myself reaching for the DSLR when it came time to shoot for work, but maybe with time, that would change too, because its form factor and throwback looks deceive you into thinking it’s just for fun and not proper value. AUTO ISO allows one to set the top and bottom speeds, and the shutter speed below which the ISO is increased.Sadly, the slow sync speed (1/140 max in actual shooting) prevents the tiny flash from being useful in daylight for flash fill. All in all, the built-in flash isn't as good as the X100T, whose leaf shutter allows its tiny flash to do much more, but it does expose better than most DSLRs for indoor fill. The unique sensor design gives super-sharp JPGs as shot, but also means that your favorite software might be less likely to be able to open the X-E2's RAF raw files. The Fujifilm X-E2 is such a new tool to me, I haven’t yet learned to use it well, and certainly nowhere near its full potential if there even is such a thing as a camera’s potential. I also passed up on the X-E1 because it doesn't have the split image manual focus aid like the X-E2.
