About this deal

It’s possible to pursue both your RN and BSN at the same time through a Bachelor’s degree nursing program. However, you can also take an associate’s degree level program in nursing (ADN) first to receive your RN license, then pursue your Bachelor's later.

The module aims to provide students with the knowledge and advanced nursing skills required to evaluate and manage small animal patients with a diverse range of medical conditions both in the practice and home environment. The module also aims to develop the student’s knowledge of the laboratory techniques employed both in-house and externally to diagnose medical conditions and an awareness of the relevant health and safety implications. Students will aim to develop and enhance their theoretical knowledge, problem-solving, practical skills required to assess and manage emergency and critically ill patients within a multi-disciplinary team. This will enable students to plan, implement and evaluate appropriate nursing care plans, for both medical and critical care patients. These updates are part of the revision of the Day-one Skills for veterinary nurses for which an open consultation was held in the summer of 2015. The new skills are designed to be in closer alignment with the revised Day-one Competences, and to make the required skills more relevant to clinical practice. The NPL was updated in August to reflect recent changes made to the Day-one Skills List, making it more focused on veterinary nurses’ everyday clinical skills. An introduction to NPL systems

The clinical coach is expected to liaise with staff members to ask them to act as a witness and what this will involve for the relevant skill(s). This may include discussion and/or provision of written information regarding the skill guidance and skill expectations in line with the practice case load. How should use of witnesses be logged in the NPL? APRNs are licensed through the state board of nursing in which they practice. We do not require witnesses to write formal witness statements. However, where witnesses are used to support training, we do expect transparency of the witness process to be visible on the NPL as detailed above. Simulations are also a very good way for the student to gain experience. However, these need to be carefully managed to ensure the simulation is as realistic as possible, and that it does not turn into a question and answer session. The student’s subsequent experiences should include limbs / spines and any other gaps in anatomical positioning. The inclusion of different thorax / abdomen positions could also prove valuable. There is no requirement to repeat log lateral chest / abdomen x-rays.
