File sizes vary immensely depending on the shooting mode - its 30MB on average for a RAW image, anywhere between 5-15MB for the standard lens and 500KB for macro. It certainly is worth using the Night mode in low contrast light, with the end results being a bit brighter. However, the overall quality of low light pictures is not quite to the same standard as those using the Night Sight mode of the Pixel 4a.

Max brightness levels aren’t as good as you’ll find on some of the best Android phones, but they’re high enough to make sure the phone screen remains legible in everything but the brightest sunlight. Also, there are many controls and effects that could be applied better. For example, HDR is automatic with no manual override. Customisation of modes like time-lapse is limited. This setup doesn't quite match the penta-lens array on the Nokia 9 PureView, but all the cameras will let you take shots that look good enough for sharing on social media. We found the main camera to take sharp and colorful images, but it never truly blew us away. Dig into the camera app menu and you'll also notice that photos can be saved in HEIF format - it's a more efficient format than JPEG and we are starting to see greater compatibility with this format. Shooting modes include Night, Panorama, Slow Motion and Time-Lapse, plus in addition to the default photo mode there is Pro, Portrait, Video and a new Cinema mode. The exact dimensions are 171.90 x 78.56 x 8.99mm, with the handset weighing in at 227 grams. It's not a light device, but the heft feels about right given its size.

Nokia 8.3 5G finally gets a UK release date thanks to

While not headline grabbing, that power under the hood is sufficient for just about any application that you can imagine with this phone. We didn't really experience any kind of lag, even in the camera app when applying effects such as the Portrait mode. (In fact, you see the blur effect in liveview.) However, intensive tasks hit it fairly hard. Watching video with the screen set to 150 nits, the brightness most people will find comfortable, on Wi-Fi the Nokia 8.3 5G discharged an average of 10% charge per hour, which is a little higher than normal. The Nokia 8.3 5G is a decent phone in its own right. Its biggest draw is its eye-catching design, and we found ourselves regularly getting lost in the depths of its beautiful aurora-like rear. While things are far more reserved around the front, there’s no escaping the benefit of its larger-than-average display, particularly if you spend a lot of time browsing content or watching Netflix series on loop. We’ve used 5G on the device in a couple of scenarios, and we found it to work well. We haven’t been able to properly put the 5G connectivity through its paces, but if you’re excited about the next-gen connectivity standard you should be well catered for by this phone.

In Pro photo mode, shutter speed can be manually selected up to a maximum of 20 seconds, while ISO goes up to 6400. If you can support the phone using a tripod, then this manual control over shutter speed might well be the best option for low light shooting. That said, some regions are only getting specific devices. For example, those in the UK will only have access to 64GB while those in the US will have 128GB as an option. Unlimited Bundle: An Unlimited Pay as you go Bundle lasts for 30 days. Your bundle will automatically renew every 30 days if you have enough credit. To opt out call 2345. A few years ago the Nokia 8.3’s standard 60Hz rating would have been fine, but with key phones including the Pixel 5, Galaxy S20 FE, Moto G 5G Plus and Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro all featuring the tech it feels like an odd omission.

Nokia 8.3 5G review: Nokia’s first 5G phone is an affordable

Roaming: using your home data plan to roam in Zone A is included in all of our Pay Monthly plans. For roaming in other destinations, charges will apply depending on which plan you are on. With the standard f/1.9 lens and even the ultra wide f/2.2 lens, detail quality is consistent from centre to edges. In fact, the final pictures usually appear better than what you see on-screen in the camera app. The Nokia 8.3 5G’s screen is generally good, outside of one key omission – it doesn’t have a high refresh rate screen. Again, it's no surprise that the polycarbonate 8.3 5G is not weather-sealed. In general, you'll need to fork out a lot more money to get a metal, waterproof phone. Before moving on, it’s also worth mentioning that the 765G is bundled with a 5G modem, which is handy if you happen to live in an area that’s getting an upgrade in the coming months. Nokia says that this is the world’s first “global future-proofed 5G smartphone” too, supporting more 5G frequency bands than any other smartphone to date. This isn’t something I’ve been able to test, unfortunately, since I don’t have easy access to an area with a reliable 5G signal. Nokia 8.3 5G review: Cameras You’ll be shooting 16MP shots with the main camera by default, and to make the most of the 64MP capabilities you need to switch to the Pro mode. That’s easy enough to find, but it’s not entirely clear that you’re only shooting in 16MP if you don’t select Pro mode. Flip the phone around and the rear has a lovely 'Polar Night' finish. The appearance of this multi-tone rich blue colour evolves as its angle is shifted from your viewpoint. Gorgeous. If you are looking for a 5G equipped phone that doesn't cost the earth, then the Nokia 8.3 5G steps in to the picture.
