I didn’t get how they had anything in common, how they even got along at all, much less how they fell in love with each other. Their mothers gave birth to them at the same hospital just after midnight on New Year's Day, but Quinn was given the cash prize for being the first baby born in London in 1990--and the name Minnie was meant to have, as well. Initially I wasn't fan of Audrey, she comes across as spoilt and chaotic, but you begin to understand her more as time goes on.

And the whole time we have Josh who gave her zero reasons to doubt their relationship and he stayed strong and faithful all throughout. The story builds momentum and jumps through the timeline bit of you hang in there with the storyline, it is so worth it. Through a series of flashbacks, interspersed with the lead-up to the wedding day, Sophie Cousens captures all of the insecurities, doubts, stresses, and what-ifs of a young woman who's grown up around infidelity.this story explored themes of fate, friendship, grief, soulmates, and what it means to find “the one”. Minnie Cooper knows two things with certainty: that her New Year's birthday is unlucky, and that it's all because of Quinn Hamilton, a man she's never met.

I especially loved the evolution of Josh and Audrey's relationship and how much they both grew and changed, but also stayed the same. While some aspects of the book (like the humor) never really took off for me, Cousens utilized the now-and-then timelines with care and precision to leave YOU, the reader, as conflicted as Audrey about which man is TRULY right for her! From there it follows several timelines: the wedding, Audrey and Josh’s story and a story of Audrey meeting a man named Fred at a photobooth and spending one serendipitous day together as well as her mothers many husbands, one of them being quite abusive. The book actually reminded me a little of Written in the Stars by Ali Harris, which had a similar concept, albeit which I thought was done better. This was such a fab, thought provoking book that I read in a day - I love the way the author wove humour through the reality of life - to the many possible endings there could have been. Commissioning surly cab driver Ted to ferry her around seems like her best bet in both tracking down the mystery suitcase owner and retracing her parents footsteps. It was a great balance between those moments and the more serious topics in the book (please see CW's). She showed then, and again with this one, that she knows how to both embrace and poke fun at the tropes so prevalent in this genre, which led to some fun meta moments.

So, my advice to you is, if you do not love this book at first, hang in there and it will surprise you by the end.

Hopeless romantic and lifestyle reporter Laura's business trip to the Channel Islands isn't off to a great start.
