Another infamous cancelled LEGO set was pulled so late and so deep into production that it was already on shelves in regions like Australia and New Zealand before LEGO decided to can it. Indiana Jones was introduced in 2008 and currently consists of 21 sets. Most sets were released in 2008 which accounted for 11 sets. It is comprised of 4 subthemes with the most sets in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull which consists of 8 sets and has an annual growth of around 9.6%. As of today, the average annual growth of all the sets in Indiana Jones is around 10.7% per year. ToD has *never* received a lot of merchandise because of its content matter - the very last wave of Hasbro action figures released in the revival line for CRYSTAL SKULL were all ToD based and were VERY hard to find - so it's possible LucasFilm has reached the point where they just want to sweep it under the rug. You need to help him escape by climbing the massive Anubis statue and finding the hidden passage. But watch out for a scary mummy and the snakes coming through the wall! 77015 Temple of the Golden Idol – 1545 pieces Throughout 2022, the LEGO Group worked closely with Lucasfilm to optimise our planned product line up for the upcoming LEGO Indiana Jones product launches in April 2023.

Images of the sets subsequently leaked and the new range has now been officially announced, with one significant omission, as 77014 The Temple of Doom has seemingly been cancelled. While LEGO product cancellations are relatively common, this example is unusual because this set was exhibited at Nuremberg Toy Fair and images have leaked online. In fact, nearly ALL Asian men shown in the film are villains. The only ones who are not are women, children, the elderly guru, or the Indian soldiers who are part of the colonial army. Another recent example of LEGO pulling sets due to incompability with their brand values was a 2021 LEGO City set – 60278 Crook’s Hideout Raid. This one was featured in promotional material but was soon stripped from the portfolio because LEGO felt it didn’t keep with the values of LEGO City. The Temple of Doom now joins an illustrious list of cancelled and unreleased sets, and to celebrate its induction into this very exclusive list, I thought it’d be a good idea to revisit some of the more well-known examples of unreleased and cancelled sets. That's his overall philosophy. He's happy to work as a professor (except grading papers lol), not live a high life and use small artifacts to help sell to the museum to fund his 'adventures'. Again he doesn't do it for monetary gain. But to protect these priceless artifacts from people who'll exploit those indigenous cultures. While all of Indy is problematic on some level, Temple of Doom is definitely the most problematic of the original trilogy since it portrays the cult as the villains." Throughout 2022, the LEGO Group worked closely with Lucasfilm to optimize our planned product line up for the upcoming LEGO Indiana Jones product launches in April 2023. These potential reasons are pure speculation, offered in the absence of any concrete explanation from the LEGO Group, and may not necessarily reflect the real motivations behind 77014 The Temple of Doom’s cancellation. The only thing that’s certain is that the set won’t be launching alongside 77012 Fighter Plane Chase, 77013 Escape from the Lost Tomb and 77015 Temple of the Golden Idol on April 1. The set was eventually with a new set number, 21047 Las Vegas, and swapped the Mandalay Hotel with The Bellagio. This isn’t the first time a LEGO set has been cancelled at the last minute. In 2020, the LEGO Group halted the release of 42113 Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey just before it hit shelves, citing its policy not to manufacture military vehicles. The explanation for 77014 The Temple of Doom’s cancellation is much vaguer by contrast, leaving the door open to debate and speculation around exactly why the 801-piece set has faced the chop.

With the reveal of the 2023 LEGO Indiana Jones set, it’s now confirmed that 77014 The Temple of Doom will not be coming out. It’s not delayed, but we now have definitive confirmation from LEGO that it won’t be expected to launch.Perhaps Lego can pay a little more attention to prevent issues like this where lots of resources have been wasted in a product that will never reach the shelves and by doing so hopefully reduce the need to increase prices to, among other things, cover for those losses." That said, it’s incredibly disappointing to not have a set from The Temple of Doom, and LEGO Indiana Jones fans will sorely miss Short Round, Willie Scott, Mola Ram and more. It’s a bit of an ambiguous statement, and all it says that it’s NOT part of the April 2023 release, so who knows if its truly cancelled, or its been delayed.
