All over the house! The rats are too many for me. What a thing it is to have an unruly family!” said Mrs. Tabitha Twitchit. A rolling pin?’ said Ribby. ‘Didn’t we hear a roly-poly noise? I think it was coming from under the attic floor...’

One of my favourite books as a child, the Tale of Samuel Whiskers remains a timeless classic that I will always enjoy. The animals in the story are comically humanised into very prim and proper genteel folk , the long lasting enmity between rats and felines is given a unique twist, and the ever so important moral of obeying elders and parents is memorably enforced by the dramatic portrayal of the consequences of not doing so. But there was a strong smell of rats; and John Joiner spent the rest of the morning sniffing and whining, and wagging his tail, and going round and round with his head in the hole like a gimlet. I do not think"—said Samuel Whiskers, pausing to take a look at Tom Kitten—"I do NOT think it will be a good pudding. It smells sooty."Amidst the search, dough, butter and a rolling-pin disappear from the kitchen, while a strange ‘roly-poly’ sound is heard from the attic. All of these things take place seemingly without explanation, that is until the whereabouts and predicament of Tom Kitten are finally described to us. This reviewer still loves all of Beatrix Potter's stories to bits, some a little better than others but all of them are timeless, and 'The World of Peter Rabbit and Friends' show complete respect and faithfulness to them with every bit of their charm and memorability.

Someone or something has discovered us!’ replied Samuel Whiskers. ‘I fear we must leave our pudding behind - though I wouldn’t have been able to eat the string in any case. I think it’s time to move home. We’ll go to Farmer Potatoes’ barn,’ he continued. They go out rat-catching in the village, and they find plenty of employment. They charge so much a dozen, and earn their living very comfortably.I’m not afraid of rats; I will help you to find him; and whip him too! What is all that soot in the fender?” They patted it with their little soft paws—”Shall we make dear little muffins?” said Mittens to Moppet. Once upon a time there was an old cat, called Mrs. Tabitha Twitchit, who was an anxious parent. She used to lose her kittens continually, and whenever they were lost they were always in mischief!
