First edition uncorrected proof copy, octavo softcover (nr fine); all our specials have minimal description to keep listing them viable. I think the way it was handled is okay, as long as a concerned parent makes it clear that this isn't acceptable behavior outside of the circumstances of this book.

All the way back in 2007, I discovered the Alex Rider series by listening to an audiobook version of the first book, Stormbreaker. They could have been angels/kids wearing cardboard wings strapped to their backs and it wouldn't have made a difference. Her friends brave a journey to blazing hot Death Valley, CA, to save Angel, but soon enough, they find themselves in yet another nightmare--this one involving fighting off the half-human, half-wolf "Erasers" in New York City. Max, Fang and the others make a submarine trip beneath the ocean, rescuing Max's mother and befriending undersea monsters. There's also a line I found randomly flipping towards the back of the book that described the new Erasers as half-wolf, half-human, and half-avian. hear me when i say this: nothing, ever, in my human life on this planet, will hit for me like this book about orphan kids with wings living together in a weird boxcar-children scenario in the aftermath of being experimented on, who are then kidnapped for more experimenting on, hit for me in the fifth grade.

Angel has gathered information about the Flock's biological parents, and Max has a sudden vision instructing her to go to the School's other location in New York, the Institute for Higher Living. Martinez leads the Flock to a remote island where they will be safe from the approaching apocalypse. Their plan goes awry when Gazzy fails to disarm all the bombs under the gathering spot, and the bombs explode while Fang, Gazzy, and Angel are still in the blast radius. I did have a couple problems with this though, as there was a lot to take in at once and it took me 11 (short) chapters to find out the main character Max is actually a girl.

I want to finish this book, but after a while I remember life is too short for reading one crappy book after another. The first volume of the series was released on January 27, 2009, the second volume was released on October 27, 2009, the third volume was released on August 17, 2010, the fourth volume was released on April 26, 2011, the fifth volume was released on December 13, 2011, the sixth volume was released on December 11, 2012, the seventh volume was released on October 29, 2013, the eighth volume was released on July 29, 2014, and the ninth volume released on November 17, 2015. The pacing and timing blend very well to push the reader to the end without thought for the outside world.

The fact that you're reading this means you've taken one giant step closer to surviving till your next birthday . In fact, his writing reads like an old man trying to sound young: "Angel stared and stared and stared at Jeb Batchelder" (p. The later books were good, but the series kind of fizzled out after a while; I remember one that felt more like a documentary on global warming than a novel. Patterson’s writing career is characterized by a single mission: to prove to everyone, from children to adults, that there is no such thing as a person who “doesn’t like to read,” only people who haven’t found the right book. Hans Gunther-Hagen, a former Itex worker, and Dylan, another human-avian hybrid designed to be Max's "perfect other half".

This is the book I'm going to recommend when everyone's recovering from the end of Harry Potter later this month. Summary: In James Patterson's blockbuster series, fourteen-year-old Maximum Ride, better known as Max, knows what it's like to soar above the world.

Hawk/Phoenix: the daughter of Max and Fang and the protagonist of the books Hawk and City of the Dead. Max struggles to keep her flock together, discover her destiny, and save the world while she's at it. One of my students recommended this book, and while I was intrigued by the premise, and the fact that the protagonist is a female action hero, I found the dialogue beyond basic (only an adult would imagine that kids really communicate like this) and the plot was a liitle repetitious. From Death Valley, California, to the bowels of the New York City subway, you're about to take off on a heart-stopping adventure that will blow you away. That being said, this story was all over the place, it would be convoluted but more like giant chunks of backstory were missing, and all the teens did was fly around and constantly get attacked.Maximum "Max" Ride: the protagonist of the series, Max is an avian-human hybrid and the leader of the Flock. p>Read about how we’ll protect and use your data in our Privacy Notice. It was followed by Max Ride: Ultimate Flight beginning in November 2015, and Max Ride: Final Flight beginning in September 2016. Later, the government enlists their help in finding out what is destroying hundreds of ships and killing millions of fish off the coast of Hawaii. The X-ray reveals that Max has a computer chip in her arm, but it’s in too deep to be safely removed.
