Whilst not quite ranking up there with the likes of Doctor Sleep and Blade Runner 2049 in terms of near-flawless decades-later sequels, Afterlife hits a lot of the right notes. From director Jason Reitman and producer Ivan Reitman, comes the next chapter in the original Ghostbusters universe. Dialogue is well-prioritised across the array, largely dominating the frontal spectrum, although a few more ethereal voices take a broader approach, echoing across the room. In the first print run, it mistakenly said "Blu-ray + Digital" (the DVD copy was only mentioned on the slipcover).More so when I was a kid (it was smaller than Summerville, honestly), and I have family members that have a similar sensibility.

However, on the whole it’s a high-quality looking picture which is the floor for any new, mid/big sized budgeted Hollywood production.and that a powerful, long-dormant evil exists just beyond the realm of reality where the family's destiny awaits.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife brings back Harold Raimis’s Egon back to life in the opening (shrouded in shadows) and his presence is there throughout culminating with a CGI ghost figure for the finale, which could’ve gone so wrong, but instead was powerful and emotional, done with the utmost respect (and done with the permission of the Ramis family). Yes, I realise there are currently four Ghostbusters movies out, but in all honesty, the one with the women is pretty dire, and at times unwatchable. I could seriously go on for thousands of words on the film, talking about almost every aspect of the movie, but I’ll leave it at this: if you haven’t seen it yet, watch it. Also included are Carrie Coon as their snarky but loving mother and the always adorable Paul Rudd who is unsurprisingly great in every scene. On the plus side, the dialog is clean and the surround experience it does offer is pretty good - but there is a notably much better audio track out there that folks who don’t rock and roll with 4K are going to miss out on.
