Description

Three perspectives tell this story and a multitude of mysteries are incorporated into it. Psychologist Connie Summers has thinly buried secrets that have recently been uprooted. A man is dead and her name is written on his palm, but whether that is in retribution or it marks her as the next target remains to be seen. This, however, is only one of the many dark ambiguities that hover over her life, as DI Wade will soon find out. The waters muddy further when one of Connie's clients, Stephanie, has a history that bears a stark resemblance to Connie's own. Both have voices from their past that won't stay quiet and the long forgotten that refuse to stay that way. As an older sister myself, I related all too well to Charise Mericle Harper's story. I, too, had (have!) the kindest and most forgiving younger brother. Yes, he was annoying because he was younger and seemed to always have it easier. I paved the way for him! I didn't like that I had to be responsible, and I took it out on him in all the uncomfortable ways that Cherise takes things out on her brother. It's a tough terrain to navigate, the complicated landscape of siblings. I appreciated the arc and lessons of Harper's memoir graphic novel, thoughtfully illustrated by Rory Lucey. Brian Gleeson as Thomas ("Tom") Claffin, insurance agent at Claffin & Sons, which holds John Paul's life insurance policy. Thomas has recently taken over the family business, which his father mismanaged before dying by suicide. Knowing that settling the claim will bankrupt the business, he is determined to avoid a payout by proving the Garvey sisters guilty of foul play.

Bad Sister, 2016 American television film starring Alyshia Ochse, Devon Werkheiser, and Ryan Newman THEN: When flames rip through their family home, only teenager Stephanie and her younger brother escape unhurt. Brett always liked to play with fire, but now their dad is dead and someone has to pay the price. On the other hand, it strangely addictive and I was driven to see it through to the end. And yes, I was treated to a somewhat surprising twist.Bad Sister by Sam Carrington is a psychological thriller that was much like reading a couple of stories at once and trying to piece those together to get the overall plot. The biggest part of the story is told by alternating between Connie and the detective investigating the case, Lindsay Wade. There are also glimpses into the past woven in at times along with an unknown voice telling their story on occasion. And the drinking game. I began to see phrases and punctuation marks show up mid "sentences". Some examples: "I swooned when I saw the most handsome 1-2-3 Cook man in my life." "I could not stop sobbing when '!' heard my sister screaming at me." I decided to turn this quirk into an excuse to down a shot of my favorite beverage.

Bad Sisters Season 2: Plot, Cast, and Everything Else We Know Bad Sisters Season 2: Plot, Cast, and Everything Else We Know

The investigation into the dumped body is led by Detective Inspector Lindsay Wade who is struggling with her guilt over the mistakes she made during the Sophie Finch investigation. The chapters alternate between Lindsay and Connie Summers plus there is some chapters that are set in the past and also a number of italicized chapters which are voiced by a unknown person. The Bad Sister by J.A. Corrigan starts off slow and builds as the reader gets to know the three main characters. Jess, Natalie and Teresa are sisters from a dysfunctional household that never really dealt with a tragedy earlier in life. The family members develop their own coping mechanisms to avoid dealing with the tragedy, secrets and lies. Their mother turns to alcohol and drugs which leaves the girls isolated from her support and their questions remain unanswered. Two bestselling authors imagine the boyhood of the man who became the legendary boxing icon Muhammad Ali. Bad Sisters on Apple TV+ is an absolute joy of a show. Did I just call a show about a group of sisters trying to kill their brother-in-law a joy? Yes, yes I did. It’s a high stakes feeling show without actually being high stakes, so it’s perfect during our very stressful current times. What I mean by feeling high stakes and not being high stakes is you already know the murder victim, John Paul, and you’re just waiting for the how. And, if you’re anything like me, you’re rooting to see the murder in the past scenes even if you already know it happened. Because John Paul is a horrible human being top to bottom, hence why his four sister-in-laws have joined together to plot his murder. However, I did have some difficulties with parts of it, I felt that sometimes the parents were guilty of shaming Charise for some of her behaviour. Particularly, the episode with the visitor who took them out for a treat. That one was definitely a head-scratcher for me as an adult reader. Secondly, as other reviewers have already pointed out Charise's face blindness is mentioned in one vignette and then never mentioned again. The ARC of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you! But, that isn't a reason to think that you should feel guilty the rest of your childhood, as this sister seems to.

The Bad Sister: A tense and emotional psychological thriller

Yet, once we know how things are playing out, all of a sudden this character comes out of the woodwork and almost single-handedly takes over the story. They become the center from which everything else revolves. It's too bad that the author didn't find a middle ground for this character as it would have balanced out the story. Very much a family drama with thriller moments threaded through, totally captivating you as these dark family secrets are slowly unfolding. Wonderful characters who do the book justice, I really became totally invested in their lives and found myself being quite emotional in regard to the individual circumstances. Fast forward to the present day and each of the sisters are married but none of them have much at all to do with each other. Teresa is estranged from both her sisters whilst Natalie would rather not speak to her eldest sister at all, if not for her own daughter Hope (named after their lost sister). Jessica still seems to be a walking and, at least now talking, mess. She married a man fifteen years her senior and I'm not sure why because they don't even seem to like each other. Ironically she is a psychiatrist and she has so many issues she is in need of a therapist...which she does in fact have but stops the session whenever it gets too uncomfortable. A bit hypocritical when that's the whole point of therapy. Teresa is a successful barrister and I don't know what Natalie is, besides a mother. I'm a mom, a children's librarian, bibliophile, and obsessive knitter. I'm a pop culture junkie and a proud nerd, and favorite reads usually fall into Sci-Fi/Fantasy.
