Gmu (gmu.opk): A multi-format music player. Again, of little use on the device – better to clear up space.

While it launched to a somewhat mixed perception due to some mixed receptions over the price-vs-performance-ratio. The RG552 makes an excellent entry point into the field of retro gaming handhelds, and will likely only get better over-time as updates and custom firmware are developed to really push the device to its limits. Before the RG351P was confirmed, a version of this chart was posted on Baidu. It shows the naming convention for Anbernic’s handhelds past and present. The inclusion of a “V” for vertical raised a few eyebrows, as the RG300 didn’t make use of that particular nomenclature. It was of course speculated that a vertical machine was in the pipeline from them, and here it is – the Anbernic RG280V. The plastic moulding is exceptionally high quality and has a very fine matte finish to it. There’s very little button rattle, it doesn’t creak or flex and the software is excellent (although that’s thanks to community developers rather than Anbernic). RG280V CONTROLSThe RG351V was an interesting departure from the horizontal “bar” style of handheld ANBERNIC were known for Spout (spout.opk): Interesting. Like a reverse Luna Lander. However, not interesting enough to keep. Using Balena Etcher, flash the Adam firmware image to the microSD card. This process can take 10-15 minutes. A common issue that people experienced with the second generation of ANBERNIC handhelds is the barebones nature of the interface. While not complex, the overall layout intimidated less-experienced users, and was found to be somewhat clunky to use for even experienced users.

Emulation worked very well throughout most of our tests. This is a small handheld, so fast-paced games get a little stressful at times and our hands started to get a little tight when we were pressing buttons as fast as we could. L2 will toggle between 6-Button and 2-Button controller configuration. This game will only work with the 2-Button configuration. While on the subject of sound quality, you might notice that when you load a game the speaker emits a singular “pop” before the game launches. It doesn’t happen during gameplay, only when a game is first launched. The RG350M and RG280M also have the same bug. It’s mildly irritating at worst. SHOULD YOU BUY AN RG280V? I wish they’d just gone for a 640×480 display like they did for the RG350M, though. That higher resolution in such a small LCD would have looked amazing. It is telling that this is my biggest gripe with the system, and it’s really not that big a deal. RG280V EMULATORS The RG280V boasts a crystal-clear 2.8-inch IPS screen, protected by a glass layer. At a 4:3 ratio, the RG280V lends itself well to many older titles, capable of playing them at a natural-looking resolution with no stretching! You can then toggle Favourites Mode by pressing Y. Favourites Mode shows only the games in your Favourites list. Press X to remove a game from the list. On-screen keyboard (for home computer systems) While it uses a weaker CPU than the RG350, it is still capable of emulating a wide range of retro handheld, 8-bit and 16 -bit consoles. It cannot really handle 32-bit platforms and beyond however (PS1, etc.) For all intents and purposes the resolution of this screen is 320×240, but you’ll often see it described as 320×480. The LCD has a non-standard pixel structure. What that means for us laymen is that if you really look closely you’ll see that every vertical straight line is slightly jagged, because the pixels aren’t square. On a screen this size it’s hard to make out. Some people argue that it gives a more authentic look, others prefer square pixels. For scaling non-integer resolutions like the GBA’s 240×160, I think it looks better than a standard 320×240 display. The Adam firmware supports a mode that will boot straight into a game when you power on the device, and then powers down the device as soon you quit the game. Enable single game mode
