Lighting: Place your Calathea 'Surprise Star' in filtered, low light for a few days to acclimate. Relocate it to your desired location afterward. Do not ever place a freshly un-boxed plant in direct sun. Plant sizes are shown as the grow pot diameter x the total height of the plant. This means the diameter of the grow pot at the top of rim x the total height of the plant including the grow pot. It therefore includes the plant roots etc as well as the height or length of the plant.

A relatively new Calathea making its way on the houseplant scene is Calathea crocata. Also known as Eternal Flame due to the eye-catching and robustly bright flowers. Sadly, this tropical native to the jungles of Brazil is getting harder to find in the wild due to environmental damage.Despite not being preferred by these pests, your White star is not completely immune to them. Some leaf scales can attach to the petiole of your plant and the underside of the leaves. These insects, like mealy bugs and spider mites, will absorb the nutrients form your plant and its moisture which will leave the leaves limp and eventually die.

The grow pot height is standardised (normally 12cm or 19cm) and shown on the size option for each hydroculture plant. Ensure the external height of your decorative pot is at least 2-3cm higher than the grow pot height of the hydroculture plant. During repotting, you can choose to propagate your plant to have more pots for your house. Calathea majestica is mostly propagated through root division. Propagate your plant during the growing season by separating healthy roots and stems from the main plant. If the roots are too entangled, use a clean pair of shears to cut through them.Diseases such as algal leaf spot, anthracnose, and septoria leaf spot can cause brown spots on Calathea leaves. Calatheas hate standing in “wet feet” as they’re prone to root rot in waterlogged soil. On top of that, they thrive in slightly acidic soil with optimal soil pH of about 6.5. [6] Fertilizing Calathea Beauty Star Calathea beauty star leaves may curl due to too little soil moisture. Make sure to water once the top inch of the soil is dry. The leaves of a calathea beauty star will fall off in a severe case of dehydration. The leaves will first curl, crisp up, and then drop off.
