Description

The tablet's pressure sensitivity is very useful especially when using the tablet for drawing purposes as it does a good job of replicating traditional art materials. The tablet uses a companion app called “ Inkspace”– which is available for Windows, Mac, IOS and Android. How does it work? source: wacom.com There is very little noticeable lag, which can be a problem with cheaper tablets, and the pen is comfortable in your hand for long stints, providing superb pressure responsiveness and giving you innate control and precision for detailing. In addition to that, you can also get additional texture sheets for the Medium and large models of the Intuos Pro which have more aggressive texture. Multi-touch and gesture controls Touch-enabled surface, source: wacom.com The touch ring enables you to perform shortcuts like zoom, rotate, pan, scroll and most importantly change the size of the brush and eraser.

A stylus is one of the most important parts of a drawing tablet. Some even consider it more important than the tablet itself. All the buttons are fully customizable and can be set to a different shortcut in the driver settings. The premium Pro Pen 2, supplied with the tablet, is one of the best styluses around (save of course for the recent Pro Pen 3 that comes with the new Cintiq Pro tablets), and it never needs charging. With pressure and tilt sensitivity, it gives you real drawing flexibility, and the level of “bite” on the stylus is just right. In terms of price – you may have already guessed the smaller Intuos Pro is the least expensive followed by the medium and Large Intuos Pro models.

Also consider the size and weight of the tablet, especially if you expect to travel with it. And note the resolution, which Wacom generally measures in lines per inch (lpi). In practical terms, you need about 1,000lpi to see your drawing in high definition. Similarly, the pressure of the pen is well calibrated and you will not get weird pressure bumps and other pressure inconsistencies. Which frees up your USB ports and eliminates the possibility of losing the wireless receiver. Driver – tablet settings and customization Also of note is that I observed no noticeable lag time between tablet and computer screen when it was connected via USB. The Bluetooth connection also seemed quite good, though I did notice a little bit of latency when using the paintbrush tool for extended periods of time. The driver allows your tablet to communicate with your computer. It also helps the computer to understand the pressure and tilt data. The overall drawing experience is very comfortable with everything working as smooth as you would expect. Surface Texture When choosing the best Wacom tablet for your specific needs, what should you looking for? Start with the number of levels of pressure sensitivity, which suggests how closely the drawing on screen will resemble your actual pen marks. The more, the better. If you're a beginner or casual drawer, you'll probably find the lower end of 2,048 perfectly fine, but if you're a pro or semi-pro you may prefer more more. There are two types of pen nibs that come with Intuos Pro. The first one is the standard tip which is smoother and has less friction and makes less noise while drawing. The other type is the “Felt Nib”– it has more resistance and a slightly more grippy feel on the surface. Pen Stand Of course, Photoshop is not the only application the Intuous Pro is good for; I also used the tablet to work on images in Adobe Lightroom. And while it was useful for cloning and healing, I found it to be a little unwieldy when making adjustments to the slider. Ultimately I think I still prefer utilizing the mouse and the keyboard shortcuts that have been burned into my muscle memory for Lightroom work. Bottom line The vast degree of pressure responsiveness in the Pro Pen 2 is something I really appreciated, especially when it came to dodging, burning and light retouching. Press hard and the results are more pronounced, use a lighter touch and everything is more subtle. If you are particularly heavy-handed you can adjust the overall sensitivity of the pen. The difference between the Wacom pen and a mouse is like hand-writing a note with a fine-tipped Sharpie versus a paint roller

The best thing about this tablet is the excellent ergonomics. Most notably, there's a new VESA mount that can be combined with its adjustable stand (or indeed any VESA-compatible arm or stand) to give you extra flexibility in positioning. The tablet has decent battery life and lasts multiple days on a single charge. One important feature to notice here – unlike other tablets which boast of wireless connectivity, Wacom does not use any wireless receiver. The texture also makes the tablet feel and sound like a paper. It is one of those things which adds to your drawing experience. It had been a number of years since I’d used a tablet for photo editing, and I can confirm that the learning curve was certainly there. But after a bit of practice with the pen and tablet I found the process of retouching scanned negatives in Adobe Photoshop to be more precise, faster and less taxing on my wrist than it would have been if I were using a mouse. Put another way, the difference between retouching with the Wacom pen vs. the mouse is like hand-writing a note with a fine tipped Sharpie vs a paint roller. The eraser is precise as well. I found it to be particularly helpful when creating multi-layer image compositions. These things do not happen to Wacom tablets. In addition to that, the Wacom Intuos Pro is made of premium materials like aluminum. But a good tablet is not all about specs. What sets the Intuos Pro apart from all the other tablets in the market is its quality. You can also customize the button on the pen along with changing the pressure settings. On-screen shortcuts like radial menus can also be set as per your liking. Accessories
