Description

According to Simon Sheridan's biography of Millington, "For this stunt Mary was conditionally discharged and bound over to keep the peace".

She had to nurse her terminally ill mother for more than ten years, and she began her pornography career to pay for her mother's care. In April 2016 David Sullivan and I unveiled a plaque celebrating the record-breaking run of Come Play With Me on the front of the old cinema building. Millington was a member of the National Campaign for the Reform of the Obscene Publications Acts (NCROPA) [19] [20] and encouraged her readers to demand the abolition of the Acts. The film was written and directed by Simon Sheridan, 41, Millington’s biographer and custodian of her archive.Come Play with Me original 1977 trailer plus the British theatrical trailer for Come Play with Me, unseen for nearly 40 years. Written, directed and produced by Mary Millington's biographer Simon Sheridan, the film mixes archive footage, previously unseen photographs and interviews with Millington's family, friends and co-stars, including David Sullivan, Pat Astley, Dudley Sutton, Linzi Drew and Flanagan. Mary Ruth Maxted (née Quilter; [1] [2] 30 November 1945– 19 August 1979), known professionally as Mary Millington from 1974 onwards, was an English model and pornographic actress. If you wanted to see real porn you didn't need to go to the cinema to watch softcore bouncing breasts - you could now get your hands on hardcore material on video cassettes, which, at the time, weren't regulated. Hardcore porn movies played mainstream cinemas on the continent, whereas in the UK it was a slightly different story.

Quilter had used many different stage names and aliases during her pornography career up to 1974, until Sullivan rebranded her as Mary Millington. She went into great detail with one of her friends [about Wilson], and he’d already heard the rumours. In 1996, Channel Four screened a tribute to her entitled Sex and Fame: The Mary Millington Story, featuring an interview with David Sullivan. Millington worked as a model, actor and high-class escort, and it's a long standing rumour she once had sex with then serving Prime Minister Harold Wilson in a Glasgow hotel. Mary Ruth Quilter was born out of wedlock on 30 November 1945, brought up by her single mother, Joan Quilter (19 February 1914 – 17 May 1976), initially in Willesden and later in Mid Holmwood near Dorking. In another note, to her solicitor Michael Kaye (partly published in Private magazine no 59), Millington wrote "the police have killed me with their threats…the police have made my life a misery with frame ups. Millington was buried at St Mary Magdalene Church, in South Holmwood, Surrey, marked by a grey granite tombstone which bears her married name. In 2004, Millington's prominence was recognized by her inclusion in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, [27] edited by Colin Matthew and Brian Harrison. Filmed on location in London and at Pinewood Studios, Simon Sheridan’s documentary reveals the truth behind an icon.

Apart from being Britain's most prominent advocate for the legalisation of pornography, Mary was also the star of some blockbuster movies. If you are in the North America, look out for US/Canadian flag icons on popular product listings for direct links. The box-set contains all the movies produced by Mary's mentor David Sullivan: the peak of her career. She became well-known thanks to her appearances in Sullivan's pornographic magazines such as Whitehouse and Private. People were tiring of traipsing out to the local ODEON to watch sex comedies, preferring to stay at home to watch The Benny Hill Show instead. She starred in around twenty short hardcore films for John Lindsay, [9] although only five ( Miss Bohrloch, Oral Connection, Betrayed, Oh Nurse and Special Assignment) have so far resurfaced. She had a small part in Sullivan's 1977 softcore sex comedy Come Play with Me, alongside Alfie Bass and Irene Handl. Given that, at the time of her death, the pair were negotiating a divorce which, it is said, Bob was unhappy with the financial arrangements of, much suspicion has landed on the man who ultimately became the sole beneficiary of his wife's will and contributors to the film who lean towards the theory that Millington's death was not as cut and dried as the coroner's inquest found air their suspicions here. Firstly, I must tell you, compiling this new Mary Millington collection of films on Blu-ray has been my dream job! Millington's story is somewhat akin to that of Marilyn Monroe's; a beautiful starlet who transcended her chosen medium and, is it said, developed relationships and links that went to the very top (the rumour of affairs with multimillionaires and even the then PM, Harold Wilson, is explored here).
