So this book, while honouring one birthday, is a full six years early to celebrate the 150th of what makes it so great.

End Capitalism”, in its full and angry boldness, shows Westwood seeing things for what they really are. Westwood thinks of Wonderland as a place of conflict: here, Alice’s logic is in tension with that of the characters within Wonderland. Carroll’s classic inspired Westwood’s fall-winter 2012 collection and she considers the tale one of her childhood favorites. Based on drawings by Mary Blair, this version of Alice nodded to Tenniel’s original illustrations while incorporating more contemporary references. The unique front cover was inspired by the Harlequin; a print synonymous with the Westwood brand since the 1980’s and has been deconstructed to echo the hazy, kaleidoscopic fantasy world that Alice inhabits in Wonderland.There's an image on the flyleaf that looks like a Mr Gum cover design reject, there's a brief introduction, an image regarding climate change, and a two-page essay regarding capitalism fresh from the Russell Brand School of Politics. Alice in Wonderland’ is timeless, but with my cover and endpapers, by adding the ‘climate map’ and the text, ‘end capitalism,’ I have helped fix it in the present moment.

Much like Dorothy’s gingham and ruby slippers in The Wizard of Oz (1939) or Little Red Riding Hood’s, well, red hood, it’s an immediately identifiable outfit.

It seems fitting, then, that Westwood’s view of Wonderland’s “adult logic” is that it is entirely illogical.
