Description

Half-way through Broken Promise, I still didn't feel that there was a killer hook, but instead Barclay is a whole lot more ingenious and delivers an utterly fascinating take on the humdrum life and goings on in the area, placing irons in fires and keeping them smoking, but without the blue touch paper really setting them alight. And while the primary issue regarding Marla is resolved, the novel has a definite cliffhanger ending, which will be taken up in FAR FROM TRUE, Barclay’s next work. The hardest part of this task was overcoming the badly formatted copy I had that was littered with extra numbers printed on each page. David goes to Marla’s to deliver some chili and finds her with a baby that she claims an angel delivered to her.

Duckworth assigns his temporary assistant, uniformed cop Angus Carlson, to look into the squirrels, Ferris wheel, and assaults - but Carlson is less than enthusiastic about this. Little does he know running this simple errand will land him in the middle of a murder investigation? David was working for the Boston Globe, when he became a single parent, and decided to move back to Promise Falls so that his parents can help him with his son, Ethan. I was kind of surprised to find that this story left a few loose ends that I am sure will be picked up in future installments. There are several story lines running parallel to each other, but at some point they start dovetailing.

It is unpredictable, especially in this case the wider plot that will obviously continue - here I was especially fond of David as an anchor character for everything else, he is very likeable and easy to travel the road with so I hope he continues to be our main point of reference. He does not want to panic his cousin, and when she is getting dressed, David sees a flyer in the stroller with an address. But there are other issues at stake in Promise Falls that play out over the course of the book and threaten the stability that’s left of the town right up to the very last page.

David attempts to reconcile who this baby's true mother might be but is taken aback when he finds the mother dead. Duckworth's homefront is not so simple either, as he has just learned his son, Trevor is now working as a driver for Finley. But the puzzlement turned to bewilderment and horror when a woman was discovered not that far away, brutally murdered, her baby missing. Registered address: Unit 31, Vulcan House Business Centre, Vulcan Road, Leicester, LE5 3EF, United kingdom.More to this point, does David really want to end up facing the consequences of his cousin being a killer?

Was so engrossed, purchased the audiobook, narrated by Quincy Dunn Baker and Brian O'Neil in addition to the e-book for a suspenseful performance. You make all Canadians proud, but also anyone who loves a good thriller and can handle a night of lamp-huddled page turning to find out how wrong preconceived notions can be. Each new book that he has published has consistently fulfilled and exceeded the promise of his previous one, with many of them set in a mythical but true-to-life town in New York named Promise Falls.

David is on his way to visits his cousin that lost her daughter a couple of months before at childbirth. It’s May 23, and small town Promise Falls finds itself in the midst of a full-blown catastrophe with dozens dead from a flu-like virus. He and his son Ethan are now living with his parents until he can find a new job and get back on his feet. In 2004, he launched his mystery series about an anxiety-ridden, know-it-all, pain-in-the-butt father by the name of Zack Walker.
