The beginning of the relationship felt a little rushed , but understandable given the situations both Lady Maerea and Lord Alacaeus were in. Loosing family, wanting the blodshed to end, finding comfort with someone who didnt crave violence as the first reaction. But I did wish there was a bit more tension or individuality within the relationship. I felt like Lady Maerea and Lord Alacaeus were almost too agreeable with each other, fights or tension were resolved immediately, and even though they are graced and fated to be with each other , it felt like they lost their individuality a bit. Lady Maerea has lost all but her brother to the fued, and in a surprise moment of kindess from the opposition, Lord Alacaeus, has offered a reprieve from the bloodhsed and starvation, he has offered peace and promises. But he also offers something more, escape from the loneliness.I am not.” She closed her hand around his where he held his sword. “I have the power to keep you here, if that is your choice.” I loved this book, as I’ve loved all of Vela Roth’s books. Blood Price is a taste of the world of Anthros and Hespera before the true political, religious feast in the books that follow. Alcaeus and Maerea are two characters you root for from the very beginning, and their love is truly what dreams are made of. Above all else, through all life throws at them, their love holds fast.

It’s such a fast read, not one dull moment, the story just keeps moving forward but doesn’t compromise on the world building; which is one of Vela’s strongest points, you’re always promised truly atmospheric world building. It's not the most amazing prose in the world, but it is a good read if that's what you're interested in, and I promise Henry doesn't sparkle. It wasn't toe-curlingly tense or anything -- neither in terms of the mystery, nor in terms of the sexual tension -- but there were some reasonable dramatic scenes. Henry Fitzroy is one such dark being. As a vampire he knows that secrecy is his best protection. Should the world discover his kind there will be blood on the streets and more than likely it will be his blood. He joins forces to hunt down the creature that is killing the people of Toronto and try to stop something much worse from being summoned.

As the only one left to defend her people aside from her brother Gerrian, Maerea is alone when Lord Alcaeus comes to collect the life price for the deaths of his father and brother at Gerrian's hand. But Alcaeus, wanting to end this feud for all time, tells Maerea that he will work with her on finding something suitable that would both satisfy the debt and attempt to ease tensions between their families. Maerea really came into herself in this book and showed Alcaeus that just because she’s his woman and he wants to protect her, she’s her own woman and is strong.Poi vabbé, CINISMO MODE: ON.. After much deliberation, I had settled on Bjarke’s Beard (do you see what I mean?). Weird though it may sound, I think my favorite part about the story is the last 10% or so. Our heroes are in their full power, the climax is exciting, touching, and beautiful, and the epilogue was everything. I was a little iffy with other parts of the book, namely the speed of the romance and the little time-skips here and there, but the climax and the wrap-up put a lovely bow on everything. Alcaeus realized his choice was very simple. He could die in battle and go to Anthros’s Hall, leaving Maerea. Or he could forfeit the god of war’s favor for all time, accept Hespera’s taint on his soul, and save Maerea. After losing 20–40%, the person’s blood pressure will start to fall, and they will begin to feel anxious. If they lose more blood, they will start to feel confused. Their heart rate may rise to around 120 beats per minute (bpm), as the body tries to maintain blood supply to the vital organs. Solid and entertaining; it almost deserves to get four stars, even just because I’m comparing it to M.C. Beaton’s Snobbery With Violence, which I gave three stars. This is definitely a better book, in terms of both the plot and the execution. Still, at least in this first book, I haven’t tipped over into adoring the book and the characters yet.
