The 5 weighs about 9 ounces which is really light for a max cushion shoe—especially compared to some of the other stuff we have on the wall in that same max cushion family. It is a little lighter due to the new Ego Max Midsole. Altra’s shoes like the Escalante , the new Lone Peak, and Rivera have a bouncy, lightweight, soft feel due to their Ego Midsole. The Torin 5 will have a midsole similar to what we have seen in those shoes but slightly more elevated. New shoes from Altra coming down the line will include this new Ego Max midsole. Eventually, Altra will have shoes that are just Ego, and then Ego Max. These midsoles will make the price points higher and lower depending on how much the shoe’s ego max has. A Lightweight, Comfortable Distance Shoe One of our reviewers has flat feet and loved the Torin 5 for running, saying she felt supported in all the right places. The upper is super light and flexible. I loved how cushioned the heel collar was. They literally melted away as I ran in them. Plus, the colors are so cute. I would totally wear these out and about if I’m going for a sportier look,” says one reviewer. Many other running shoes are built on steeper drops, with popular models ranging anywhere from 4 mm to 12 mm. For runners used to those bigger differences between the heel and toe, the Torin 4.5 Plush might take some getting used to since it works different muscles in your feet and legs. The material holding the tongue down does not cause a problem other than giving the Torin 4.0 a tighter feel when putting the shoe on, but once I start running I don’t notice the material or the tightness at all.

ALTRA Torin 4.5 : entre confort et légèreté - Outdoor And News ALTRA Torin 4.5 : entre confort et légèreté - Outdoor And News

JARRETT: The Altra Torin 4.5 Plush is here. What does the .5 mean? I’m glad you asked! Or secretly I want to show off that I can pay attention and learned something… The .5 means that this is an update to just the upper. The midsole and outsole are the same as the Torin 4 Plush. If you liked the previous model, you’ll be happier than a pig in mud. The Good Thomas did an interview with Brian (altra cofounder) which you can find on the bitr youtube channel. He said (around 31:30 minute mark) that there will be a shoe that fills the torin regular gap of the 25-26mm midsole that has a big update. That should be coming in spring 21. The Torin 4.5 Plush maintains the same shape as all other Altra running shoes. The FootShape toe box is more rectangular than most other running shoes on the market, which leaves plenty of room for your foot to splay naturally when you land. The tongue of the Altra Torin 3.0 is attached to the sole along both sides by a slightly stretchy piece of material. This is also the are of the 4.0 that feels a bit more snug than in previous Torin iterations.

Believe X Tracksmith Trackhouse Sweatshirt (Unisex)

There was an overlay around the toe box in the previous version that annoyingly creased. Altra softened that up and made it less pronounced around the pinky toe so there are no issues anymore. Let’s clear up some confusing stuff with the Altra Torin 4.5 right off the bat. It’s bad enough we’re using half numbers for shoe names (half versions in Altra are just changes to the upper, btw), but now we’re getting weird with calling this the Altra Torin 4.5 Plush. It’s weird, because… there’s no “regular” Altra Torin 4.5 anymore. The Torin 5 fits true to size. I wear a US men’s 9.5 and the Torin hit the mark exactly. Some extra cushion… Just for you! The first thing reviewers noticed about the Altra Torin 4.5 Plush is its underfoot feel; as the name suggests, it’s plush.

Altra Torin 4.5 Plush Performance Review - Believe in the Run

Now, we’re doing some crazy stuff here, and Altra will release the Torin 5 this June 2021. In my opinion, it is not necessarily an update to the Torin 4; for me, it is closer to the Torin Plush 4.5. For convenience’s sake, just think of this shoe as the new update to Torin Plush without the plush part in the name. Also, just to make it super clear this is the only Torin shoe available this year, they are no longer selling the Torin Plush. Price Jump Designers enhanced the comfort of the toe box with a knit upper. The knit is lightweight and pliable, so it flexes naturally with your foot as you transition from landing to takeoff. The Altra Torin has been one of Altra’s most popular road shoe models over the years, and the Torin 4.0 is the latest iteration. That said, this model of the Torin is not for everyone. Altra has revamped the midsole of the Torin 4.0, and in so doing they have removed a small amount (~2mm) of cushioning. Donner, recevoir, partager : ces vertus fondamentales du sportif sont de toutes les modes, de toutes les époques. Elles sont le sport. ”

The Quantic midsole is cushy and springy, giving the shoe soft landings and a bouncy ride, and it’s consistently cushioned from heel to toe. The knit upper is comfortable and pliable to give the shoe more flexibility. ROBBE: The last time I reviewed the Torin was two years ago for the Torin 3.5. There was a great deal I enjoyed about that shoe in regards to performance. Very comfortable, lightweight, enjoyable to run in. Fleet Feet testers love the wide toe box because it’s comfortable for a lot of different foot shapes.Whether you’re a longtime fan of the Altra Torin or looking to shake up your running routine with a zero-drop shoe, the Altra Torin 5 is perfect for any body in motion.

Altra Torin 4.5 Plush Review | Cushioned Zero Drop Road

New Balance 1080v10: These have a soft pillow like cushioning. The upper is knitted but, designed to be snugger with a bit of stretch. Here is our review: The tongue has been toned down and is a good middle ground between being overly padded or a thin nothing. The heel collar is smooth and padded perfectly. As with any shoe with a mesh upper, the Torin 4.0 isn’t going to keep your feet dry in the rain or while running through a puddle. JARRETT: As I write this, I realize that I have very little to complain about with the Torin 4.5 Plush. Yeah, there should have been a second eyelet for lacing and Altra seems to be moving in the direction of slimmer profiles, but the ounce of weight loss is great, the upper feels good, and the midsole and outsole didn’t need much changing. The Torin 5 features an updated knit mesh upper for enhanced breathability and flexibility on the run. Long-time Altra wearers fear not, the Torin 5 still boasts brand-new Altra EgoMax midsole cushioning and signature FootShape toe box.

What You Need To Know

Topo Magnifly 3: Like Altra Topo shoes have a broad rounded toe box. The Magnifly is zero drop like the Torin 4.5 Plush. However, the ride is much firmer and more responsive. So, if you don’t like running on pillows then the Topo Magnifly 3 would be worth considering. Here is our review: Altra shaved a full ounce off the men’s model and a little over one ounce from the women’s. The change dropped the women’s shoe to 7.4 oz and the men’s to 9.1 oz—placing the new version comfortably in that sub-10 oz category. The result is an even lighter ride than before while maintaining the same soft feel. All Altra shoes are Zero Drop, which together with the broad rounded toe box allows your feet to function improve your posture. If you are used to running in shoes that have an elevated heel and a more pointed toe box then it is advisable to transition into Altra. This is because your feet and lower legs won’t be as strong as the rest of your body as they will have been restricted by your shoes. It is a good idea to gradually increase the time you spend in your Altra running shoes and alternate them with your previous shoes. What tends to happen is that your feet start to spread on impact and you become more aware of the stiffness and elevated heel in your previous shoes. So you naturally increase the time you spend running in your Altra’s. There is a small amount of cushioning around the opening of the Torin 4.0. The cushioning is the perfect amount to really help hold the heel in place while wearing this shoe. After the first run, however, any worries about the tightness of the shoe went away. The shoe felt great on the road, right out of the box.
