Pic is produced by A24, Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen from Square Peg, Len Blavatnik and Danny Cohen from Access Entertainment and Elisa Alvares and Timo Argillander of IPR. Her favourite TV programmes include Inside No 9, American Horror Story, Stranger Things and Black Mirror but she is also partial to a quiz show or a bit of Say Yes to the Dress! And then a final chapter, set in Beau's family home, with mother issues that would make Norman Bates from Psycho seem well adjusted. Right now, it's unclear what she's referring to but it's clear Beau is a troubled character and the trailer follows him in a number of locations, some more abstract than others.

However, that wasn’t the case for The Whale, which came out in the US in December, but isn’t due to arrive in the UK until the 3rd February 2023, so there could well be a split run for Ari Aster’s horror comedy too. Characters smoke joints, and it is suggested the drugs have been laced with other unnamed substances. He grows up without a father, who his mother says died the night Beau was conceived due to a heart murmur caused by an orgasm; he struggles with a recurring dream in which he watches from the bath as an identical twin demands to know what really happened, to which she locks him in the attic.

Als Beau aufbricht, um seine Mutter zu besuchen, beginnt eine epische Odyssee, auf der er mit seiner Vergangenheit, Gegenwart und Zukunft konfrontiert wird. Golden Globe nominated actor Parker Posey stars as Elaine Bray, with Julia Antonelli as teen Elaine. There are tender flashbacks in which Beau's mother is played by Zoe Lister-Jones and the young Beau is played by Armen Nahapetian. Beau is Afraid will be released in US cinemas on 21st April 2023, while a UK release date is yet to be confirmed.

Beau geht es nicht gut - seine Paranoia macht ihm das Leben schwer und die Medikamente, die ihm sein Therapeut verschreibt sind auch keine Lösung. He then has a series of mind-bending adventures in his bid to get home to his mum with a number of scenes hinting at the dark town of the horror comedy. Writing for Vulture he said, "A superlong, super-crazy, super-funny movie about one man's mental breakdown with a cast better than Around the World in 80 Days: Joaquin Phoenix, Patti LuPone, Parker Posey, Nathan Lane, and Amy Ryan. There are riots on the streets, Misery-style escape room setups, and surreal dreamlike worlds to cross.

When his mother dies, Beau makes a journey home that involves some wild supernatural threats, and Ari Aster has kept the whole thing mysterious to keep us intrigued, although "Kafkaesque" has been used to describe the project. Ich mochte Hereditary und Midsommar, also habe ich mir auch Asters jüngstes Werk, Beau is Afraid aus dem Jahr 2023, zu Gemüte geführt. The performances are decent and set design is on point, it just fails to deliver any narrative what so ever and if this was the intention, to question and explore conventional narrative and story telling, then it failed tremendously. Joaquin Phoenix stars in A24's three-hour sprawl of angst, despair and black comedy from Ari Aster, the director of Hereditary and Midsommar. That's not to say that the film is bad – in many respects, it's brilliant – but no one will watch it without asking how he got to make such a mind-blowing, genre-bending, bladder-testing three-hour sprawl of Oedipal angst, despair and absurdist black comedy, with no conventional plot or character development.

It's very long, very confusing, and definitely not for everyone -- but love it or hate it, it's hard not to respect Beau Is Afraid's ambition. There is a new face in the game alongside Pheonix with the teenage role of Beau played by Armen Nahapetian. After violent confrontations with an intruder at home, then by a police officer and a murderer on the street, Beau is hit by a food truck. But various bizarre events conspire against him; he misses his plane and must now journey overland – and travel inward into his mind to make a reckoning with what this overbearing woman has done to him.You get a pretty stark taste of this in the trailer below, which gets is pretty grim at times, despite its lighter notes. Try and remember the story the next day and you’ll only pick out the images and sounds that burrowed into your head. He has an air ticket to visit his mother on the anniversary of his father’s death – a prospect that cranks his anxiety levels up to 11.
