Alicia from Tamaqua, PaOh and this song ties into the song Bicycle Race...... That is the video with the naked ladies riding bikes. I thought I'd say that since everyone is talking about the scenes with the little nudists riding bikes...lol. Fat Bottomed Girls doesn't have the girls on bikes. Its just Freddie and the band on stage singing this song........ :-) Moi-même from Paris, -I don't understand why so many people here think this song is sexist. Humorous, satirical, sarcastic, perhaps. Sexist? Hardly. Winston from Potomac, MdSexist things objectify women - so the song is indeed sexist, because the women are characterized by their bottoms.

Eleven days earlier on November 5th the group's double A-sided record, "Fat-Bottomed Girls" b/w "Bicycle Race", entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #70; a little over eight weeks later on January 7th, 1979 it would peak at #24 {for 1 week} and it stayed on the chart for 12 weeks...

We lived in Bel Air mansions, stayed in the best hotels, flew private jets, and received extravagant gifts from the bands," she writes. "It was certainly a life that was envied by many." Bryan from West Milton, OhMade about a young man that found his manhood when banging his nauty nanny. She must have been a fat bottomed girl...woman. This year marks 20 years since she was cured of breast cancer. She was the first to proudly tattoo over her mastectomy scar. “ People say they should be brave. But you do what you have to do, there is no alternative, you just keep going” says Sally, who, by the way, chose not to have children of her own. He is relieved to have retired: “ I volunteer helping local teenagers to experience music through my charity Jamming Station. I still enjoy my trips to London, to see old friends, and the long gossipy lunches, but without the alcohol. It’s like poison to me now, it gives me migraines. Maybe because I’ve been lagging…“, he admits.

With her Norland and National Nursery Examination Board she got her first job working for a famous jazz singer and actress. Now retired, Sally Arnold lives in Totnes, Devon and likes to ‘ draw and walk”, although she has not cut herself off from her old life. “ I still talk to Allen, who must be almost 80 now. We always talk about Jade. I adored her. I’m on the phone with Artimus Pyle of Lynyrd Skynyrd…Reminiscing about those we’ve lost“, says. I marvelled at how much she moved around, renting or selling apartments and cottages as her work situations evolved. She also worked for various charity entities setting up events, eventually starting her own event planning company. She even sat side by side with Princess Diana for some charity events, with some down to earth conversations to share, as well as photos of them together. Sally also collaborated with iconic Hollywood actor Paul Newman to utilize proceeds from his "Newman's Own" brand to funnel into UK charities. Kevin from Bridgeport, CtThat was an immature comment. Freddie Mercury was bisexual. I heard that Brian wrote the song after meeting a few groupies he had fun with...don't know if its true though. In 1977, a private plane carrying six crew members crashed in Mississippi due to fuel shortage – a moment that Sally describes as when her “life fell apart”. “I lost my beloved Dean but he also saved my life, as I should have been on that plane.” (Dean had called Sally a few days before suggesting she took a different flight.) But, she admits, there was one time when she did slip up. “It was on the Stones tour. I’d only ever seen heroin as yellowy, brown sugar, but this was white. I was so ill. But Woody [Ronnie Wood] and Keith [Richards] looked after me for hours and hours,” she says. “I would never have taken it by choice, because I saw what it did to them. It was all too easy. The same went for sleeping with the group. I didn’t want to be a cliché, and fortunately, it saved my sanity.” After moving on from nannying five-month-old Jade and returning from travelling around Asia, Jagger’s driver called Arnold to inform her of a job going as The Rolling Stones's tour manager. Bel Air mansions, luxury hotels, private jets, extravagant presents and famous introductions all came with the role, but as Arnold puts it, so did instability. ‘As soon as one fire was put out, another arose’, she recalls. The song 'Fat Bottomed Girls' has a lovely four part harmony, doesn't it? I don't think there's any deep meaning in it, unless you want to say it means beauty is only skin deep or whatever. The fact it was a man’s world she was living and working in (and some under the influence more than others) was part of the ride. “I loved it,” she says. “In fact, one thing I miss is the big bear hugs. We were such a close-knit family on tour.”

The lure of the big city had always been too difficult to resist. Even before her Norland training, at 16 she went to London to work in the cloakroom of Soho’s legendary Marquee Club. “I got to see the best bands live, which was pretty amazing. Jimi Hendrix was there, Pink Floyd and Eric Clapton with his horrendous perm,” she says. I probably owe more than I realised then to my grandfather [Charles Arnold]. He was a successful entrepreneur, owner of MK Electric and the sixth richest businessman in the UK at the time, who admitted he never really knew what he was doing, so he just did what he thought was common sense. And that’s what I did. I remember Roger Daltrey’s wife, Heather, saying to me once: ‘Nobody’s ever given the wives an itinerary before.’ But to me, it was common sense – the wives needed to know where their husbands were! Exceeding the boundaries was never a problem, except once” during the Stones’ European tour in 1976. He was a stupid boy, a roadie, who could have invited me for a drink or a meal, and instead threw himself into an elevator». A plane tragedy changed her lifeArnold's time with The Rolling Stones was not always easy, and she faced many challenges. She says, "As soon as one fire was put out, another arose." As you would imagine the books covers exposure to substances, unsavoury people and Arnold touches on her own experience of being abused/people in power abusing that. Some of the antics and behaviour is quite appauling of these celebs.

Chris from Port Hawkesbury, CanadaFreddie wrote Bicycle Race, from his point of view it would have been about GUYS on bikes, but the poster in the album was obviously going to be WOMEN on bikes. They knew that would cause enough controversy as it was, and controversy was what they were trying to 'manage', what with starting to be past their prime and all. It worked! A rather dull album that everyone bought just to get the poster. Bryan May wrote the more lyrically controversial 'Fat Bottomed Girls', I always thought it was kind of comical, and not to be taken seriously. On musical terms, both songs are acceptable, I guess, but the rest of the album is much below what Queen were capable of.

When will my order arrive?

Overall this was a pretty good read, one that I want on my shelf so I can read it again (and continue crying). The narrative in the book is recounted with some assistance from Sally’s old diary extracts, and it all adds up to being let in to see what an extraordinary life this remarkable woman has had. Dekkun from Anonymous-ville, HiWhen I took a trip to Oklahoma with my teacher and friends, this was one of the songs on the "surprise CD" some girls from the school made us. It's safe to say, it's so disgusting and so awesome at the same time. I love it! Jameson from Lexington, Ky(laugh) Brian, of course, wrote the song; if it has "loud, fat" guitar parts in it, to use Brian's own words, he's likely to have written it. But even if Freddie had written this, I think the whole issue of "boys" versus "girls" is moot. It's not just that Freddie was gay or bi; Freddie just didn't care. If it was pretty, he'd go there. The spontaneous jet-set lifestyle soon morphed into an unpredictable, chaotic one. Meanwhile, five-month-old Jade was becoming more attached to Sally – “I was with her 24 hours a day, feeding, cuddling, bathing, it’s only natural.” Sally worked her last day on March 2 1972, although it wasn’t the last she saw of the couple.
