If you want other times than 10 second delalys, Nikon hid them at Custom Function C3, where you have your choice of 2s, 5s, 10s or 20 second delays, as well as can set it to your choice of from one to 9 shots when the delay is over. The D5200 gets a processing boost over its predecessor. Nikon touts its EXPEED 3-branded processor as offering higher speed, better color reproduction and improved noise reduction. The D5200 also has an updated, cleaner design to the on-screen user interface that presents more information in a more-logical layout. This is welcome on a small camera with relatively few external controls since much of the user interaction is, by necessity, via the rear screen (and lots of button pressing). Most of the camera's rear controls are scattered, seemingly almost randomly, to the right of the D5200's large folding screen. While we can understand the need to locate them to accomodate the 3 inch LCD, the positioning of the Zoom In and Zoom Out buttons in particular isn't very intuitive, being operated with your right-hand thumb, and right next to the Delete button. As the D5200 isn't a very complex camera in terms of the number of external controls, it thankfully doesn't get too confusing, but is something to consider from an ergonomic point of view. The third camera in its series, following the D5000 and the D5100, the Nikon D5200 offers a massive leap in image-quality. In addition to the 24.1-megapixel DX-format CMOS sensor for finely detailed images, the new EXPEED 3 image processor provides high-speed operation and excellent, rich colour reproduction – as well as enhanced movie recording. The high ISO sensitivity (100-6400 which is extendable to 25600) delivers brilliant shots in dark or poorly lit environments as well as producing clear images of fast moving subjects.

Particularly impressive is how well the D5200 can handle a fast sequence where the light is changing rapidly, like when a birthday cake has its candles blown out: The new 2,016-pixel RGB metering sensor used by the D5200 is again identical to the system used by the more expensive D7000 model. This provides precise data to the camera’s Scene Recognition System, which optimises exposure, autofocus and white balance immediately before the shutter is released. And here are a couple of portrait shots. The built-in speedlight caused no red-eye effect in this test. If you select a mode according to the scene, the D5200 automatically chooses the most appropriate settings to deliver a beautiful image. Five frequently used Scene Modes such as Portrait and Landscape can be directly selected using the mode dial. For other modes such as Sunset, Dusk/dawn and Food, set the mode dial to SCENE and select the mode by rotating the command dial. You can capture scenes which previously had been difficult to shoot, easily and beautifully.Compatible with WR-R10 Wireless Remote transceiver and WR-T10 Wireless Remote transmitter that let you control key camera functions from a distance The old has gone and the new has come. Why do we say this? The Nikon D5200 goes digital with all of its settings. Instead of physical dials and buttons, you get everything on screen. Simply adjust it via a rotating dial to swivel from one setting to another. An improved burst rate is also a plus point for the Nikon D5200. Nikon D5200 for the average user Active D-Lighting: Retains details in highlights and shadows for well-balanced images, even if the subject is moving Lights when built-in flash or optional flash unit is fully charged; flashes after flash is fired at full output

GPS compatible: Records the exact location of the camera when a picture is taken by using the optional GP-1 unit You may see ghost reflections in the finder with extremely brilliant points of light, but not to worry, they aren't in your actual image. Matrix metering: 3D color matrix metering II (type G and D lenses); color matrix metering II (other CPU lenses) Center-weighted metering: Weight of 75% given to 8-mm circle in center of frame Spot metering: Meters 3.5-mm circle (about 2.5% of frame) centered on selected focus point Auto, portrait, child, close up, night portrait, party/indoor, pet portrait, color sketch: Auto flash with auto pop-up P, S, A, M, food: Manual pop-up with button release Auto, auto with red-eye reduction, auto slow sync, auto slow sync with red-eye reduction, fill-flash, red-eye reduction, slow sync, slow sync with red-eye reduction, rear-curtain with slow sync, rear-curtain sync, offWe like the new screen layout, which shows the interrelationship between shutter speed, aperture and ISO speed The D5200 utilizes color and brightness information of the shooting scenes acquired by light source identification of the Scene Recognition System for auto white balance. It identifies the light source by referencing the in-camera database for auto white balance. In this way, it can determine the ideal white balance even with difficult light sources. Convenient for shooting with pin-point focus such as for a close-up of a flower and other small subjects. Using a tripod is recommended for more precise focusing. There's quite a few similarities between the Nikon D3200 and the Nikon D5200, but one difference is the latter's sensitivity capabilities. The D3200 has a native range of ISO 100-6400, which is extendable up to 25600. Nikon D5200: design

As covered above, the D5200 is super lightweight, but often sentences advanced users to diddling in menus to make basic settings instead of just shooting.Auto, incandescent, fluorescent (7 types), direct sunlight, flash, cloudy, shade, preset manual, all except preset manual with fine-tuning. Advanced Wireless Lighting supported with SB-910, SB-900, SB-800, or SB-700 as a master flash or SU-800 as commander; Flash Color Information Communication supported with all CLS-compatible flash units Nikon claims Full-Time AF, but I seriously doubt AF works well. it's horrible on the D7000 in video mode. Press the Lv switch and the mirror flips up, the shutter opens and the rear screen displays the scene as seen through the lens. There is a red rectangle in the middle, which you can move practically anywhere in the frame. When in manual focus (MF) mode, you can magnify into this rectangle in a number of steps by repeatedly pressing the button marked with a loupe icon, but this magnification seems to be at least partially interpolated. This means that you cannot see detail down to the pixel level, unlike some competing cameras.
