I would say that is an astute observation for some films; dramas, adventures, thrillers, and comedy can be a form of escapism. It's a very handy practical guide to day-to-day-life for anyone in the film industry, and Michael Caine narrates us beautifully through his own experiences in the industry. Caine describes the vast differences between theatre acting and film acting, and the importance of the close-up camera. He also discusses the fact that people pigeon holed him as a 'cockney working class actor' and the problems this caused in his career.

Mr Caine knows exactly what he’s doing and his advice is the most helpful I’ve found so far on acting for the camera. HE IS A LEGEND IN THE ACTING FIELD; HOWEVER, HIS INSIGHT/INSTRUCTION IS VERY VALUABLE; HIS PRESENTATION SIMPLE AND HE IS EXTREMELY PATIENT AND PRECISE. In this book actor Michael Caine describes being a leading actor in films, he says that his job is the carry the entire film and give life to the filmmaker’s vision. After you see it, you will look at acting in films in a different way, and notice little details that separate great actors from good ones.In the 1960's there was a huge cultural change between the social classes and it was not unusual to see some actors getting big breaks without having gone to acting school, Some were members of local acting classes but had never studied the art of acting. The author also goes into the importance of professionalism and behavior on and off set with members of the cast and crew, as well as the Do's and Don'ts of how to deal with troublesome actors and directors, as well as dangerous stunts. Most of the acting topics that are covered in the book are explained in more detail in the masterclass. His first major starring roles, beginning in the 1960s, include 'Zulu,' 'The Ipcress File,' and 'Alfie. Nevertheless, the spectator will still react to what is on the screen emotionally, though, for films like this, it is less of an escape from reality, more a learning experience.

I burst with excitement when I got the role and was sweaty and nervous; convinced I was going to blow it - and this book helped me through it. Please, if you are thinking about starting an acting career or are simply looking for a book to expand your knowledge about the business, then DO consider adding this one to your list. Michael Caine teaches the art of movie acting to five young actors, who perform scenes from Alfie (1966), Deathtrap (1982) and Educating Rita (1983). Dalla viva voce di un grande attore, quello che chi sta dietro la macchina da presa dovrebbe sapere. Although he makes several references to other actors' bad behaviors, the only person he names by name is Anthony Quinn.Caine plays an agent described as a ‘trickster, insubordinate, someone who refused to follow the rules. This book also shows you how acting worked in the 1960's,1970's and beyond, the differences in the way that staff behind the scenes worked, even gender differences and technical advances which changed the way actors worked in the film world. The beautiful partnership he had with Connery in Man Who Would Be King, and how they supported each other, made each other better, and made a better film.
