The goal for Nixon is to either stall the game out to a stalemate (which can happen if the game runs for the maximum of nine rounds) or, preferably, to claim the momentum token five times and end the game early.

In Watergate it seems to me that you cannot really make a plan, because of the randomly drawn cards. The game ends immediately with a win for Nixon if: Nixon has managed to place a total of 5 momentum tokens on their momentum card. However, I’d urge you to read this review all the same, because to turn your nose up at Watergate without looking deeper could be doing your collection a major disservice. In Watergate, one player assumes the role of a Journalist, while the other embodies the Nixon Administration—each with a unique set of cards. I’m not a huge politics buff, but I have to say game designer Matthias Cramer did a fantastic job with Watergate.

The second player represents The Washington Post, they must show the connections between Nixon and some of his informers. Except for the journalists and conspirators, player cards (each player gets 20) are removed from the game once used for an action. It’s a game for two players only, and happily sits on a small table between the players, which is the way it’s designed to be played. You could easily take this with you anywhere, and I could see it being a great one to take to the pub for a few drinks with a friend. So, this means that not only can you only ever take that action once, but you are also losing the value side of it, which for 4 value cards, that can be painful.The journalists win if they manage to create a chain of evidence between Nixon and two recruited informants, thus bringing disgrace on the President. A Grade products may arrive with or without cellophane and may have some superficial damage to the game box.
