Similar to blasters from the Alpha Strike series, the Volt only uses small friction clips to attach each half of its external shell, along with solvent welds. Therefore, it is relatively difficult to modify these blasters.

The Nerf Elite 2.0 Volt SD-1 blaster is equipped with 2 tactical rails so you can customize it with Nerf accessories for each mission or battle. Switch on the light beam to enhance your targeting capability even in low-light situation. The beam works on targets up to 15 feet (4.5 meters) away. This single-shot blaster has storage for 2 darts in the handle. Includes 6 Official Nerf darts for multiple reloads. Fires darts up to 90 feet (27 meters). Eyewear recommended. Requires batteries. Eyewear, batteries, and additional accessories not included. The design is excellent and trumps the original design in almost every conceivable way. It’s smaller and sleeker, with a better color scheme. If there’s any single area where the Nite Finder beats the Firestrike, it’s the handle. The pistol grip is way better on the old Nite Finder. It’s bigger and just feels better, especially without the secondary trigger that you can find on the Elite Firestrike. Though, smaller hands probably won’t know the difference. Pull the priming handle to ready the blaster to fire. It was first leaked online in the form of imageless listings. It was later discovered in physical form, alongside the rest of the initial Elite 2.0 lineup.

The Firestrike is a single-fire direct plunger dart blaster. There are two triggers on the blaster; the top is the firing trigger, while the bottom is a separate trigger to power the integrated red light beam unit, which projects a circular, red crosshair onto surfaces. This light is most effective in dark environments. It features a two-dart dart storage under the blaster's light and has a tactical rail on top of the blaster. On the end of the handle is a small hook-like piece of plastic, which extends down past the battery compartment. This hook can be used to prime another Firestrike, allowing the user to dual-wield Firestrikes.

It was later re-released with additional detailing, such as digital camo and a textured grip. It was re-released again with an orange, white, and gray color scheme; this re-release was shown off at the 2014 New York Toy Fair and was later released as the Elite XD variant.
