Description

The SL-100C sports a simplistic visual design without unnecessary frills, while retaining the high quality operational feel that is a Technics tradition. Its elegant minimalist appearance will enhance your listening experience. Technics couldn’t have better timed its 2015 re-entry into the audio enthusiast turntable market. Interest in vinyl took off that year, growing 30% from around 9 million sold in 2014 to 12 million in 2015.

Additionally, while the SL-100C boasts a superior motor, it doesn’t come equipped with a speed regulator. This means you’ll have to adjust the rotation manually to suit your platter’s needs. Also, bear in mind that this model doesn’t come with a cover for your platter, leaving it exposed to dust and potential damage when not in use. Design and Features

Why is Technics SL-100C better than Audio-Technica AT-LP120XUSB?

Before T3, Duncan was a music and film reviewer, worked for a magazine about gambling that employed a surprisingly large number of convicted criminals, and then a magazine called Bizarre that was essentially like a cross between Reddit and DeviantArt, before the invention of the internet. There was also a lengthy period where he essentially wrote all of T3 magazine every month for about 3 years. Vinyl users tend to fall into two camps. First there are the vinyl veterans. These men – and they are all men – think nothing of procuring special platforms for their precious turntables to sit on, using precision-tooled pressure gauges to set up there tone arm, then rewiring their entire house to reduce hum from electrical interference. So, when I was introduced to the Technics SL-100C Direct Drive Turntable, I knew I was in for a treat. Technics, with its long-standing reputation in the audio industry, has consistently delivered high-quality products that enhance the music-listening experience, and the SL-100C is no exception. It is controlled with a control technology adopted from Blu-ray players, which ensures smoother running. The torque is 1.8 kg/cm, the start-up time is 0.7 seconds and the flutter is 0.025 percent. With its sleek design and cutting-edge features, this turntable promises to elevate your vinyl listening sessions to a new level. But more than its aesthetics or technological advances, it’s the dedication to maintaining the true, authentic sound of vinyl that makes the SL-100C stand out from the crowd. Whether you’re a casual listener or a severe audiophile, this turntable promises an immersive, high-fidelity experience that respects the art of music as intended to be heard.

This is confirmed when we compare the Technics to our current favourite at this level, the Rega Planar 3/Elys 2. Once you add the price of a decent phono stage to the Rega, the two cost broadly the same. Yet, in many ways they’re aimed at different users. However, what made the whole experience a lot better than some record player assemblage projects I've been involved in is that once the parts were correctly assembled, there were no further hassles. I plonked it on a sideboard next to a Cambridge Audio Alva Solo phono pre-amp and… that was it. It sounded great straight away and there was no discernible electrical hum.Counterbalancing and setting the anti-skating control for the tonearm was also not exactly enjoyable, but it didn't drive me to drink either. First off, you’re sure to appreciate the elegant platter, complemented by a handy cueing light. The device also boasts a pitch regulator that’s adjustable, alongside a VTA/SRA adjustability feature. In a world dominated by digital music, the Technics SL-100C Direct Drive Turntable serves a particular purpose: to celebrate and elevate the unique experience of listening to vinyl records. This turntable is designed not only to play your favorite records but to do so in a way that captures the true essence of the music. With every spin, the SL-100C brings the warm, rich, and detailed sound that vinyl enthusiasts cherish. The aluminum injection-molded chassis is made of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene copolymer plastic, which has special rigidity and vibration-absorbing properties. The record player measures 453 x 173 x 372 millimeters (W x H x D). In addition, the 9.9-kilogram drive stands on four isolators with decoupled springs and rubber, which ensures increased vibration damping. When you are playing the street funk of Isaac Hayes, deep and sensual reggae 12s, Sympathy for the Devil by the Stones, or absolutely spangled acid house anthems, the Technics SL-1200GR does exactly what you'd expect. It serves up huge bass, tight control over the mids and trebles and, with the most prime sides of dancefloor vinyl, an overwhelming feeling of excitement or, dare I say it, ecstasy.
