Description

ZAGG made sure that the Pro Stylus works with pretty much every iPad from 2017 and onward, so this has wide compatibility. Plus, the universal capacitive tip means you can use this with your iPhone and other touch screen devices too. You should not buy this if ... Wireless Charging: The Pro Stylus 2 attaches magnetically to the included wireless charging cradle. It also works with any wireless Qi-charger. With the ZAGG Pro Stylus, you have the familiar cylindrical shape of the Apple Pencil, but there is also a flat edge, just like the second-generation Pencil. The size is also very similar. This makes it much more comfortable to hold in the hand while using, and it won't roll around on a flat surface. The flat side also means you get a perfect fit when magnetically attaching it to the side of your iPad, though this only works with the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models. However, the Pro Stylus works with the regular 10.2-inch iPad, 10.9-inch iPad Air, and iPad mini 5. So no matter which iPad you're using, the ZAGG Pro Stylus will work. Like Apple Pencil 2, the ZAGG Pro Stylus is flat on one edge and designed to snap onto the edge of a supported iPad, magnetically. ZAGG lists the iPad Pro 11 and iPad Pro 12.9 as being compatible with the magnetic attachment feature. It also worked perfectly with my iPad mini 6. The magnets hold the stylus firmly in place (even with the iPad in a folio case) and when not in use, the stylus is safely out of the way. This is a great feature. Not only does it reduce the risk of losing the stylus, it’s always there when you need it. Active and Capacitive

If you want a stylus simply to navigate on your iPad and maybe take down notes, those two criteria may be enough. However, if you want to use your iPad stylus to sketch or illustrate, then you'll want to consider paying more for more sophisticated features. The terms below are the ones to look out for. Easy to Use with Automatic Pairing and Magnetic Attachment: The Pro Stylus automatically pairs with any iPad 2018 or newer. The Pro Stylus attaches magnetically to the iPad Pro 11 & iPad Pro 12.9. When time comes for a recharge, plug a USB-C cable into this accessory. The necessary charging cable is included, but iPad Pro owners can use the one that comes with their tablet. Scribble is one of the best new features in iOS 14, and the Pro Stylus fully supports it. While the ZAGG Pro Stylus offers all the features I would want, and covers off the needs of many users, there are some people that would be better off with an Apple Pencil. I put the Pro Stylus though a gauntlet of tests. Writing fast or writing slow, there’s never a noticeable delay in digital ink appearing on the screen. There’s no skipping, where the line disappears. And palm rejection when using an active stylus is built into iPadOS, so don’t worry about hovering your hand over the screen. As far as basic writing goes, Zagg’s product is as good as an Apple Pencil.

Which versions of the iPad is the Apple Pencil 2 compatible with? You can use the newer 2018 device with the fourth-generation iPad Air (2020), the iPad Pro 12.9-inch (third generation) and later, and the iPad Pro 11-inch (first generation) and most iPads that come later, the exception being cheaper models such as the recent 10.2-inch 9th gen iPad, which only supports the original Apple Pencil. A significant standout feature of the ZAGG Stylus Pro 2 is that it attaches magnetically to your iPad or iPad Pro the same way that the Apple Pencil (USB-C) can and charges over Qi wireless charging the same way that the Apple Pencil 2 does. As you probably know, the Apple Pencil (USB-C) does not charge wirelessly, so this alone may be a deal-maker for anyone who might be considering the ZAGG Pro Stylus 2 over the Logitech Crayon. Long-lasting Battery: Work longer without worrying about the battery. The Pro Stylus 2 lasts up to six and half hours before it needs to be recharged. 1 The original Apple Pencil works with iPadPro 12.9-inch (first and second generation), iPadPro 10.5-inch, iPadPro 9.7-inch, iPad (sixth generation to ninth generation) and iPad mini fifth generation. It can all get a bit confusing, so to compare the two styluses, see our guide to Apple Pencil vs Apple Pencil 2 where we cover in detail the differences between the two models, as well as their various compatibilities. What makes a good iPad stylus? But pressure sensitivity isn’t a feature. No matter how hard you press down, the line you’re drawing doesn’t get darker. However, this is a feature of the Apple Pencil — one of the few ways Apple’s stylus is better.

One unique feature that sets apart the Pro Stylus from other accessories is the fact that ZAGG includes a universal capacitive tip at the top, allowing you to use this with devices like an iPhone. The capacitive tip is made from a rubberized material, but it is also soft and squishy. This makes the Pro Stylus even more useful, which is always nice.Almost every iPad user can benefit from an active stylus, not just artists. If you don’t want to carry a keyboard around, this stylus is a reasonable alternative, especially now that Scribble in iOS 14 lets you handwrite text. Build and design Not only are the above features not found on the Apple Pencil (USB-C), but they’re also not found on any of the third-party alternatives discussed above. For this reason, anyone wanting any of those features should splurge on the Apple Pencil 2 instead. Conclusion There’s a quirk iPad Pro users should be aware of, though. Apple built four magnets into this tablet to hold it to the Magic Keyboard or the Smart Keyboard. The capacitive tip in the Zagg Pro Stylus is attracted to these. Not so much as to make it difficult to use, but you’ll need to get accustomed to the tip wanting to divert to one of those four spots when it gets near them. The Zagg Pro Stylus (on top) includes both an active tip and a capacitive one, giving it a leg up on Apple Pencil (at bottom). Should you consider the Logitech Crayon over the Apple Pencil (USB-C)? Absolutely, but perhaps only in limited circumstances. I’d generally recommend the Apple Pencil (USB-C) over the Logitech Crayon, especially given the price point and the more seamless native integration with iPadOS, but if you need the more durable aluminum body or the ability to choose between Lightning or USB-C charging methods, then Logitech’s stylus might be the way to go. And it stands up well against the Apple Pencil. Both take notes equally well, and can be carried around clinging to the edge of an iPad Pro. The Pro Stylus also boasts a capacitive tip, which the Pencil doesn’t have. On the other hand, Apple’s product is the only one of these two with pressure sensitivity, making it better for artists. This JamJake pen has many of the features of the Apple Pencil for much less. No need to connect via Bluetooth; just turn it on, and it's ready to go. You can use it with any iPad compatible with the Apple Pencil. It charges with a USB-C cable, and you get 20 hours of battery life. Pencil alternatives for lessAdvanced features: More advanced stylus models include features such as palm rejection, tilt support, and pressure sensitivity, which make for a better drawing and writing experience. Palm Rejection Technology: Don’t worry about resting your palm on the tablet. The Pro Stylus has palm rejection technology so that when it’s in use, only the stylus will register on your screen.
