The unique style of writing in All My Mothers creates a compelling story that explores difficult topics with sensitivity and nuance. Stop arrêtez tout ! Des fois je lis un livre et je *sais* que je ne lirais pas mieux avant un long moment. C’est le cas avec All My Mothers. J’ai mis 5 étoiles mais en vrai je veux en mettre 6, 8, 12. Je n’ai pas peur de le survendre. J’essaie d’organiser mes pensées. La historia sigue la vida de Eva desde los cuatro años hasta los treinta años. Es una historia coming-of-age impresionante con una voz narradora que va cambiando conforme la prota va creciendo. La manera en la que está escrito este libro es ARTE. El estilo de la autora es precioso y delicado, y se va adaptando perfectamente a las diferentes etapas vitales que atraviesa Eva.

All My Mothers paints an intimate picture of the complexities of family relationships and cultural identity. I think I liked it most for the narrative style as it was different from some of the other books that may hold a similar plotline. For as long as she can remember, Eva has been sure that her mother is not really her mother. As she starts a life long quest to find the truth, she encounters women throughout her life who make her question the role of a mother, and the relationship she has with her own. The men in the tale were mostly unhelpful, with the exceptions of Nigel, whose character is endearing, and Eva’s eventual partner. No hay cosas que me guste más que adentrarme en una historia completamente a ciegas, sin tener referencias de nadie. Simplemente dejarte llevar por esa vocecita que te dice "este libro es para ti". Y lo mejor de todo es así es: este libro llegó para quedarse.

Do you have those books that you love just SO MUCH, hit you so hard and mean so much to you, but you worry that it was more about the circumstance in which you read it than the book itself? The Other Half of Augusta Hope, Joanna Glen’s debut was my favourite book I read last year, and I was worried All My Mothers wouldn’t live up to the hype that I had created for it.

Without a doubt one of the best books I have ever read - an extraordinary masterpiece’ Anstey Harris, author of The Truths and Triumphs of Grace Atherton - We follow Eva as she makes a life long friend in Bridget Blume and her lovely family – particularly Bridget’s mother who feels like a really lifeline to Eva. Their relationship grows and changes and there are some really heartbreaking moments throughout this novel. All My Mothers is a touching story about family, self discovery and friendship which manages to strike just the right balance between sweet and sad. I loved All My Mothers, perhaps even more than The Other Half of Augusta Hope (also by Joanna Glen, which I also really enjoyed). I’d really recommend this beautiful read. My Rating: 4/5

I think the character development is done so well and Eva becomes such a strong woman and has such a strong voice. She’s definitely a character that will stay with me for a long time.
