For me, the book unravels a bit towards the end, which is unfortunate because there was some really good stuff in this first part of Hungry. I have to admit that there are days when I wish I could just chug my Synthamil and not have to plan what meals to cook for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but a world without chocolate is obviously unacceptable! When Thalia meets Basil, a poor kid who has never had anything and belongs to the Analogs, she begins to learn about the strictness of the Nutrition Laws and how privileged she's truly been. But later on we learn that she's a computer whiz, a hacker and that the technology seems boring to her. However, despite the great humour of the illustrations and the overall rhyming story, the ending for me just isn’t that good. There is of course also the adorable but forbidden romance, but since Hungry is a standalone you don’t have to worry about love triangle developing ;-). But then my dad explained the symbol and told me that it’s in honor of the Svalbard Rebellion, which happened after the last remaining seed vault near the Arctic Circle went belly up.I was a little nervous about how it was going to wrap everything up as I got to the end, but it manages to end at a very satisfying point and tells a complete story without falling to the temptation of dragging things out into multiple books. Yep, that was the problem: How was I going to weave those issues into a good, rollicking story that anyone (let alone teens who have a million other ways to be entertained) would want to read? One minute that are so in love and then the next, they are angry at each other; so angry, that they walk away from each other a few times, and it seemed, always at the wrong time, to later come back and be madly into each other again. Mom has a habit of speaking to Grandma as if she's talking to a small child who doesn't understand the great big scary Interweb. In terms of making readers think long and hard about various important and current political issues, Hungry does not disappoint.

Along the way, readers meet Redzepi’s merry band of friends and collaborators, including acclaimed chefs such as Danny Bowien, Kylie Kwong, Rosio Sánchez, David Chang, and Enrique Olvera. The author explores the devastated society by beginning within the most privileged and going out to the most free with a hint that freedom could exist for everyone, but they will have to fight for it. It should mean there is no more famine, no more obesity, no more food-related illnesses, and no more war. I knew HUNGRY would be a bigger, meatier book than I’ve written in the past because I wanted to tackle some fairly political issues—such as food rights, environmental problems, and the notion of shrinking government while expanding corporate rights. Constantly changing servers, wiping cyber lives clean, and re-creating online identities seems like a lot of rigmarole for a little infamy.A. Swain is a chilling portrayal of what our future could be if our society continues down its current trajectory as well as a coming-of-age story about a girl named Thalia when she realizes her world is much different than she thought.
