Description

There are 8 Merge FX pattern presets to choose from (4 if you use VirtualDJ, TRAKTOR PRO 3, or Serato DJ Pro) and you can use your own samples. If you’re DJing with rekordbox, you’ll find everything is customizable. Choose from 41 types of effects within the 4 categories that make up a Merge FX (Build FX, Build Sample, Release FX, and Drop Sample) and combine them to create more than 9,000 different patterns. You can save 8 of your own patterns and use the FX Select button on the unit to call them up whenever you want to perform a unique mix. That said – if you’re looking to livestream with the FLX-6, you could connect it to an external interface like an iRig Stream or a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 and route that out to your device of choice. Though it’s not direct, it’s doable. Before connecting the DDJ FLX6, ensure you have the latest version of Djay installed from the App Store . The USB-B port on the rear of the DDJ-FLX6 connects the controller and powers it. Using this supplied cable to connect iOS devices does require adaptors which we will link below.

Plug and play capability is available via the in-built soundcard and DJ Performance functions with either rekordbox or Serato DJ Pro. All you need to do is connect using a USB cable to a connected laptop that is running either of the music software applications, and you are ready to get DJing. Besides the new graphite colour scheme and added software compatibility, not much has changed from the original DDJ-FLX6. And while the GT is more flexible, it still functions best as a Rekordbox DJ controller. Finally… Finally, the TRS microphone input with dedicated volume control is found on the rear of the controller. It is worth noting that the microphones audio is not sent to the computer over USB, meaning you won’t hear it in recordings or streams. With full size jog wheels, which are the same size as the flagship CDJ-3000, as well as a four-channel mixer - the first thing you’ll notice about the DDJ-FLX6 is that it feels like a step up from the entry level Pioneer DJ kit. While there’s no jog wheel adjustment, like that offered by the DDJ-800 and DDJ-1000, the tension setting feels just right – especially if you’re upgrading from the smaller DDJ controllers. It’s not a perfect Traktor mapping, or the easiest to get working– It isn’t plug and play with Traktor (you’ll need to install a TSI file to get it to work), and once it is up and working, some of the advanced features of the controller, such as the Merge FX and the in-jog displays, won’t work (plus, we suspect the jogwheel Midi will be laggy, as it always has ben in the past with third party Traktor controllers)In this video, founder and tutor Jamie Hartley explain how to get started with Serato DJ. Learn how to get started importing and managing your music library! To learn more about using Serato, read our beginners guide found here! In this article, then, we’ll look at five things you should know before buying this unit. 5 Things To Know The controls on the DDJ-FLX6-GT are set up the same way as on its predecessor, which is a club-standard CDJ + DJM setup. This makes it easy to perform. But the new matte grey body and graphite jog wheels give it a more elegant look. Virtual DJ Support To use the DDJ-FLX6-GT with VirtualDJ and TRAKTOR PRO 3, you’ll need to buy a license key or subscription for the latest version of the software. To use TRAKTOR PRO 3 import the mapping file (TSI file). Updated design with a graphite color brings a sophisticated look

Unlike the Merge FX, Jog Cutter performs the same on both Serato DJ Pro and Rekordbox DJ. The effect is similar to the Pad Scratch mode found in the Pioneer DDJ-SB3. Although, just as with the Pad Scratch mode, using the effect in performance is challenging and often doesn’t sound great. Sample Scratch Pressing the central button in the centre of the dial activates Merge FX, and twisting the outer dial will start to apply an effect. The effect will either create a build-up or break down depending on the direction the DJ turns the dial. Automating loops, changing BPMs and applying effects in the process, the Merge FX remains active until the DJ presses the central button again to release the effect. Releasing the effect at the same time as starting the next, the merge FX makes transitioning between two genre’s more accessible and sounds dynamic and clean. The DDJ-FLX6 features straightforward audio connections. Headphones connect to the front of the controller using both 1/4 inch and 1/8th inch TRS connections. Speakers connect to the two RCA line-level outputs on the rear, labelled master. The FLX6 also features a booth output on RCA line-level connections, for connecting a second pair of speakers. Both connections are colour coded with the red connection for the right speaker and white being for the left. If rekordbox is used to manage the music software, there are eight Merge FX pattern presets. If Serato DJ Pro is used, there are only four, and everything can be changed. One Merge FX comprises of four groups: Build FX, Release FX, Build Sample, and Drop Sample. Each of these groups has 41 different effects that can be combined to make more than 9,000 different patterns. Also, the user can save up to eight of their own patterns, which they can access with the FX Select button when needed. New Jog Cutter Feature Originally codenamed DDJ-600 internally at Pioneer DJ, the Flex - as it’s now known – has been developed to enable complex transitions between genres for DJs whose musical taste, or that of the dancefloor, is fluid. The DDJ-FLX6 has two really powerful features to help DJs jump from one BPM range to another Merge FX and the Jog Cutter. Merge FX

New-look, New-design layout

Since the DDJ-FLX6-GT has a built-in sound card, you can start DJing as soon as you connect it to a laptop running compatible software and a USB cable. Jog-wheels and Intuitive Performing The Pioneer DJ DDJ FLX6 is a four-channel controller for those wanting to take their first steps into the world of DJ’ing. Compatible with Rekordbox, Serato DJ Pro, Djay and Virtual DJ, the FLX6 is compatible with computers and iOS devices. In this beginners guide, we are going to show you how to set up the DDJ FLX6 on all platforms, to get you mixing as soon as possible! Before connecting the Pioneer DJ DDJ-FLX6, ensure you have the latest version of Serato installed on your computer, available here . Users with USB-C iPad devices can bypass the adaptor, using a USB-B to USB-C cable. Do note this method disables the iPad charging, so keep an eye on battery levels!

Pitch bending and scratching feel natural on the DDJ-FLX6-GT thanks to the large jog wheels, which are the same size as those on the flagship CDJ-3000 multi player. Each one features and On Jog Display* too, so you can keep an eye on the playhead position, and the new rubberized finish on the outer ring gives you a much better feeling – especially when pitch bend.In this video, DJ Holland explains how to get started performing your first mix on Algoriddim DJAY. Learn how to stream music and perform your first mix. Although this video doesn’t use a DDJ-FLX6, the application’s basic navigation and managing the library inside DJAY still applies. It still works best with Rekordbox– Despite all the talk about “flexibility”, this is still primarily a Rekordbox DJ controller, and some of the features – Merge FX, Jog Cutter, Sample Scratch – don’t work as well or at all with other platforms It is also undeniably popular, if nothing else for its excellent jogs – plus we do applaud Pioneer’s direction towards making the DDJ-FLX6 work with all software. We look forward to more controllers that “work with everything” moving forward, so how about officially announcing the DDJ-FLX4 for Traktor, Pioneer DJ? AlphaTheta Corporation has today announced the release of the 4-channel DJ controller for multiple DJ applications DDJ-FLX6-GT from its Pioneer DJ brand – an updated version that will replace the popular DDJ-FLX6. BONUS: Existing DDJ-FLX6 users can get all the new functionality too– I thought it was worth adding an eighth “bonus” point for those who own the original DDJ-FLX6, just to make it crystal clear: Aside from the paint job, the hardware hasn’t changed at all, which is great news for existing users, as they can get all the functionality with a simple firmware upgrade

The layout of the controls on the DDJ-FLX6 is similar to that on the club-standard CDJ + DJM setup, so you can perform intuitively. However, this DJ controller introduces a fresh look, with a dark gray matte finish and redesigned jog wheels that will make your setup stand out. It doesn’t have the mobile-friendly features of the new DDJ-FLX4– While we suspect that when the Rekordbox for iOS & Android DJ app is launched in early 2023, there will be a way to get it working with the FLX6, but it won’t be as easy as with the DDJ-FLX4 that’s just been announced. That’s because the FLX-4 has USB-C connectivity and a USB-C charging port, neither of which are on the DDJ-FLX6-GT, sadly

It has also been announced as working with Virtual DJ– This is good news, but then, it always did work with Virtual DJ in its previous DDJ-FLX6 incarnation. Maybe this is just exactly the same mapping made official and announced by Pioneer DJ, or maybe there are improvements (we’ll no doubt find out soon enough)
