Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will celebrate the 25th anniversary of Buffy the Vampire Slayer with a brand new Blu-ray release, which will be available for purchase on October 3. Countless pieces of merchandise were spawned and the series is still popular amongst its long-time fans. As our lead, Swanson looks gorgeous – she really was hot back in her prime – but she demonstrates iffy acting chops and not much charisma. Even in instances where the television show earned major popularity – such as with Alice or M*A*S*H - the films remained noteworthy. However, when a mysterious figure named Merrick (Donald Sutherland) pops up, Buffy learns she must follow a different path as the preordained “chosen one” intended to fight vampires.

Another character becomes more confident in herself — but in doing so ends up directly affecting Buffy’s boyfriend in a way that no one could have predicted. The colors tended to feel a little heavy – not unusual for the era – but they were more than acceptable. It runs four minutes, one second and presents notes from director Fran Rubel Kuzui and actors Luke Perry, Donald Sutherland, Kristy Swanson, and Rutger Hauer.Okay, he leans toward comedy, but Reubens makes Amilyn creepy enough to add some scares to the proceedings, and he livens up the screen whenever he appears. It mixes the “humans-good-monsters-bad” theme of the first season but manages to showcase how all of the characters have changed as people (for better and for worse). If Fox spent the money to do this right like CBS/Paramount did with Star Trek: TOS and Star Trek: TNG and Fox did with the perfect The X-Files Blu-Ray then Buffy would look amazing in HD. The thing is, we haven't heard a damn thing about any sort of "re-do" on the remastering effort that was previously "attempted.

Nothing excelled, but the soundscape gave us a bit of breadth, particularly in some of the vampire scenes. Netflix had those original before switching to the 4:3 version (except for OMWF of course) before switching to HD, before it was removed entirely. The problem is just bad decision making and poor effort, Joss Whedon himself needs to find a way to take charge of this project and redo it all from scratch so that it can be kept to the original filmmakers vision.

Buffy absolutely can be remastered in HD, the problem is that it is not being done correctly or with any care. Whedon doesn’t commit in any direction, so the movie leans toward half-hearted stabs at horror, comedy and action. And finally, for Season Seven (Discs 34-39), there’s an audio commentary on Lessons by Joss Whedon and David Solomon; an audio commentary on Selfless by David Solomon and Drew Goddard; an audio commentary on Conversations with Dead People by Nick Mark, Jane Espenson, Drew Goddard, Danny Strong, and Tom Lenk; an audio commentary on The Killer in Me by David Solomon and Drew Z.Against her will and aided by mechanic Pike (Luke Perry), Buffy goes from flighty high schooler to the potential savior of humanity. In the finale, the world is saved by someone helping another with her mental angst following a tragedy.
