After completing the film, I knew I had to read the memoir- and this is how I found “Greetings From Bury Park”. Quite similarly, the memoir talks about Manzoor’s life however, the biggest difference is the memoir focuses on the author’s life as an adult and particularly at a point of his life after the death of his father.

Springsteen himself gave his blessing to the film, though it’s missing a lot of his music. The film uses Bruce’s Born In The USA hits, which are all quite darker than their presentation on the album. But one of the things that make Springsteen, well, Springsteen is the way he performs from the stage. Five years before he wrote his book, Manzoor described his first Bruce show. That aspect of his fandom is noticeably absent from the film. They weren’t trying to make the fan film Springsteen & I or even the type of coming-of-age story told in High Fidelity. Manzoor scripted The Great British Asian Invasion for Channel 4 [6] and wrote and directed Death of a Porn Star for the same network which told the tragic story of the life and death of Lolo Ferrari. Manzoor was born in Lyallpur (now Faisalabad), the second largest city in Punjab Province and the third largest in Pakistan. He emigrated to Britain in May 1974 with his mother, older brother and sister to join their father, Mohammed Manzoor, who had left Pakistan in 1963 to find work.
