The book didn’t flow - sentences that made no sense at all and repeated themselves (just written slightly different), even the spelling of ‘Nico’ throughout the book changed. Letters from Christopher is a true crime story with important information to put the pieces of the puzzle together for inquiring minds. Read herein the completely truthful account of what happened to Shanann, Bella, Celeste, and Nico Watts. I expected that the book would contain the actual letters written both to and from the author. In other words, I expected to be privy to the actual letters. AGAIN, THIS IS NOT THE CASE. (There are a few letters at the end of the book, but not many.) Kessinger told The Denver Post: “When he spoke to me, he was very softspoken. He appeared to be a good listener." Kelly started a career in journalism after completing her education at The New School in New York City. She currently lives in Chicago. In her free time, Kelly can be found writing (duh), exploring her city, and frequenting a handful of coffee shops. She's an avid reader, music listener, and dog lover. Kelly's writing talents have landed her in a variety of positions, including her current job as a Culture Writer at Newsweek, as well as formerly interning at Rolling Stone Magazine and writing about music at Atwood Magazine. She also runs the blogJust Cut The Bullshitwhich is known for its mental health advocacy.

Reviewer Bilal Qureshi adds: "It is a thematic film about marriage and the deception of social media, as well as a piercing examination of domestic violence constructed with care and undeniable craft." I felt that he blamed the “evil” he felt, or “Nikki” and of course shanann even though he tried to say he didn’t blame Nikki or shanann for what he did Please do not waste your money on this book. There are other books about the Watts family murders that are more worthy of your time and your hard earned money. Throughout this book, Cadle claims "research shows" or "research says," but she cites no research. She did not interview a psychologist or any such professional in her "research" of this book. For example: "On Saturday night, August 11, Shanann had less than 36 hours to live. Did she start to feel her life was almost over? This is basically everything we already know. No new info at all, because the author decided to sell the one letter he wrote which had a few new details to the Daily Mail, before the book was released so it pretty much spoiled it.He made me believe that he was doing all of the things that a rational man and good father would do,” she told the newspaper.

The only justification he offered for the senseless killings—and the hypothesis seemingly put forward in the Netflix documentary—is that he felt it was the only way to be with Nichol Kessinger, the colleague he had begun secretly dating only a few weeks before. "I knew if I took my hands off of her, she would still keep me from Nikki," he wrote. Elsewhere in the letters, admitting to Cadle that he slipped Oxycodone to Shan'ann, who was 15 weeks pregnant at the time of her death, in an attempt to cause her to miscarry, Chris wrote, "I thought it would be easier to be with Nichol if Shan'ann wasn't pregnant." Just knowing that the documentary is out there has sent Chris to some dark places," a source tells People. So, why am I disappointed in this book? Well, besides being full of typos and terrible grammar, it does NOT offer much in the way of new information. Basically, the author just took the information that has previously been reported and wrote it out in her own words. Words that are written with more grammatical errors than a grade one book report. A New York Times critic writes that "the film’s power rests in the British filmmaker Jenny Popplewell’s decision to eschew the traditional form of the televised crime documentary - the datelines, the dramatic narrator and emotional interviews - to construct a narrative entirely out of archival footage." There was apparently no editor. Cervi 319 was frequently referenced as Cervi 219, Niko was just as consistently spelled Nico, and the Rzucek’s last name was misspelled EVERY time.

If you thought Netflix's American Murder: The Family Next Door was the most in-depth look into Chris Watts' horrendous crimes that's out there, we've got news for you. The convicted killer actually helped in the writing of a book all about killing his pregnant wife and two daughters, and it's already been published. If, like me, you’ve read all the discovery in the case, there’s nothing new here except Chris’s own words. Yes, he does offer a new confession, however it doesn’t vary too greatly from what he told FBI agents in February 2019. The author often times just slid huge chunks of discovery into the book, including texts between Shanann and friends, as well as an entire verbatim interview with Chris.Mrs. Cadle took advantage of Mr. Watts and willfully deceived a family in mourning over a still very recent and tragic loss," Shanann's family, the Rzuceks, explained in a written statement.
