This lens has an improved level of weather resistance thanks to its weather sealing design and the micro-patterned rubber focus ring. It feels great to operate while also helping to protect the lens from light rain, snow and dust. Samyang has taken into consideration both how and where you use your camera, to provide you with the best usability. I do wonder if they've compromised the lens slightly from a pure photography point of view, to cater it more to the video/vlogger market. This is probably a smart move, but I hope the photo IQ is still good. It's a small, light 1.4 - even compared to the benchmark 35GM - so it could be compared with the 1.8s as well as 1.4s. It's the same price in the UK as the Sony 35/1.8, for example. I hope to do that LoCA test tomorrow, since im selling S45 like i said but in general the only thing that is more alike than different between SY45 and S50 FE II is the AF (speed and noise; accuracy is however better on the new lens). Unlike previous f/1.8 editions, the ‘STM’ model has a stepping motor autofocus system that gives speedy yet quiet operation. The focus ring no longer rotates during autofocus, which improves handling, as well as enabling manual override in Single AF mode. The Samyang 50mm f/1.4 II surprised us with almost no breathing at all. The Zeiss on the other hand has a huge amount of breathing (see our video for the test). Chromatic aberrations

However, Korean lens maker Samyang has stepped up to the plate with its first autofocus lenses: the AF 50mm f/1.4 FE , AF 14mm f/1.8 FE wide-angle and, most recently, the AF 35mm f/2.8 FE. Overall the build quality is very good , high quality plastic and a very nice textured focusing ring but is below Sony GM or Sigma ones. What is surprising is the very low light of the lens only 420g so much lighter than the v1 In term of AF the Samyang V2 is much better than the V1 but not as good as the Sony lenses, specially for burst or moving subjects : the hit rate is around 75% in movement versus 90-99% for Sony. For static subject no issues in 95% of the cases but yes if you go crazy with something like dark branches - on light grey sky there is a pretty strong LoCA but even my Tamron lenses (smaller aomunt) or GM (smaller yet) show some LoCA if i go extremely insane with the composition. Samyang improved a lot with this lens in various areas just not all of them to the level of the best Sony or Tamron lenses. This is an updated and improved version of Samyang's first ever autofocus lens designed for Sony-E mount. Thanks to its focusing ring than can be turned into aperture ring the Samyang 50mm F1.4 II has ergonomics very suited for video and if we add on top its minimal focus breathing it is one of the best in video Using the electronic first curtain shutter at large apertures and high speeds results in ugly bokeh. Image credit: Andy Westlake Fast and quiet Autofocus thanks to the Samyang linear STM make this an ideal lens for photographers and videographers. The minimal noise and more accurate control of the focusing lens groups mean this is a smooth, easy to use lens. With its effective focal length of 85mm, the Panasonic is ideal for portraiture and the f/1.7 aperture enables a fairly tight depth of field. It’s well-engineered and features an optical image stabilizer. First I thought about the FD 50mm 1.2L as well, the L lenses have that allure to them and I love FD lenses for the most part (all but one lens I own are FD lenses).

Overall, the lens produces very pleasant, sharp images, with a smooth bokeh that shows well throughout the aperture range. Flare can be induced when the sun is virtually in the frame, but rather than creating reflections it tends to manifest as a loss of contrast. In normal use, flare is not a problem. I wonder if shooting it with the superb new AF in the A7r5, vs your A7r3, would make a significant improvement in the AF accuracy. So what if we somewhat unfairly compare it to the far more expensive Planar lens? The MTF suggests a win for that lens, but is that what we find?

Il n’y a pas encore de profil Lightroom pour cet objectif mais cela devrait venir dans les prochains mois Stopping the lenses down to F2 left the Samyang still a bit better in the center, but the Sony showed more gains in the periphery and is very slightly stronger in the midframe and the corner. B y F2.8 both lenses are intensely sharp across the frame, with the Samyang holding a slight lead in the middle and Sony in the corner with the midframe about the same. I find it hard to call a winner even after careful scrutiny at 200% on a 4K monitor. The only thing I can saw is that I do favor the slightly brighter image from the Samyang as shown in this midframe 200% crop...." The lens barrel features just a single AF/MF switch, but the wide, tactile and precise manual focus ring isn’t redundant if you’re using autofocus, as it can also be set in-camera to adjust exposure compensation or ISO sensitivity.
