Description

Nocturnal animals are more active at night than during the day. These animals sleep during the day, often in a burrow or den. They have special adaptations that help them survive in the dark. Over millions of years, these animals have developed traits that help them survive in the darkness. Nocturnal animals may have larger ears to hear better, bigger eyes to see better, and body parts that glow in the night. Which animals fit this category? https://www.stem.org.uk/system/files/elibrary-resources/legacy_files_migrated/29982-wellcometrust_primary_bb_bodychallengecards.pdf

The word ‘sport’ contains the sound ‘or’. Ask your child to list as many words as they can containing the ‘or’ sound. Your child might identify words that contain an alternative spelling for ‘or’ such as oor/ore/aw/au. Look at the first illustration of the UFO. How many different colours can you see? Can you try to create a similar picture? Play ‘Catch’ with your child using a ball or anything else that can be thrown safely. Instead of counting in 1s each time the ball is caught, ask your child to only count every second, fifth or tenth catch.Choose letters that make words that can be read phonetically. Write the letters in chalk on the ground outside. Give your child a word and they must spell it by jumping from letter to letter. This could also be done on paper inside the house.

Remember you should include different openers (As she opened her eyes, Early that morning, At dawn, Through the open window, Next, Then, After that, Finally) and conjunctions (because, and,so, then, when, but, when, if) Animal grouping: Group animals into two columns. Identify animals that can fly and cannot fly. What do animals eat? You will need a grid each, and two dice, and colouring pencils. Youngest player starts. On your turn, throw the 2 dice. Then colour in a rectangle using the numbers on the dice for the lengths of its sides. Fill your numbers in in the column on the right as a multiplication. You can colour your rectangle wherever you like on the grid as long as there is space. If you don’t have space, you miss a turn.

Week Commencing 15th June

Write a letter from Heather to the alien from the time when she is waiting to meet her friend again. One is an introduction to Nigeria geography lesson as we were studying Africa and its Nations before the holiday: You could film them making it like my world kitchen (or just watch some of these for inspiration....who doesn't love Ainsley Harriet!) Step 4: Using your fingers, rub over your hidden drawing- and watch it magically appear! You will see that this elephant’s cardboard was corrugated, and the lines are coming through. Using your story map I want you to write the start of a you story. Don't forget to include a setting description and introduce your characters.

From there draw a series of triangles with a straight line edge or a ruler. Narrower at the top and becoming wider towards the bottom.

An out-of-this-world picture book from David Litchfield, the best-selling author of The Bear and the Piano and Grandad’s Secret Giant. The illustrations are gorgeous, first and foremost. I loved the play with the flashlight, the softness of the nighttime forest, the colors of the spaceship. If for no other reason, read this for the pictures. Saw one review here talking about how the text actually detracted from the story, and I can see that. This could have been a great wordless picture book too - the illustrations carry that much of the story.

Work with togetherto identify a ‘caring’ way of talking to people compared to an 'uncaring'way. Discuss their reasoning. How does the persons reaction change if they are listening and responding caringly? How might this work at home? How can we talk caringly?Imagine that Heather tells her son about the adventures that she has had with the alien. What would she say? Could you write or record that story? Create a mask : Using different materials around the house, create a mask of your favourite animal. Think about the colours and shape. Can you add different textures to your mask? What did you think of The 'Three Little Wolves' story above? I'd like you to write a letter to explain to Mummy Wolf all that has happened. Don't forget to tell her all about the different animals that helped you and use your emotion vocabulary to tell her how scared you were each time.....try to use different words that all mean scared (like terrified or frightened) to make it interesting for the reader. You could make a calendar for the next week or for the whole year 2020 to practise. This could include drawing or paintings of each season/day.
