However, one can’t help but notice that the plastic used is not just rugged but also noticeably thick and somewhat bulky. When mix engineers add a little bass thump to the mix, as many modern producers and engineers often do, the HD 280 Pro handles it beautifully—you hear and feel it, and yet it's never booming. The only criticism I have is that the coiled cable is a little on the heavier side, and it had a couple of kinks due to the way it was packaged. They have a good audio reproduction that packs a lot of bass, and although they're mostly made out of plastic, they feel durable enough to handle multiple drops without damage.

There is no active cancellation occurring in the low end, so passing cars and trains will most likely overpower whatever you’re listening to. Andertons Music Company acts as a credit broker and not a lender and only offers credit products from Secure Trust Bank PLC trading as V12 Retail Finance. Upon your purchase of the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro you’ll receive the headphones, an 1/8 to 1/4-inch adapter, and the manual. I was able to sit in front of some folks having a loud meeting one day and it didn't bother me in the slightest.

On a less positive note, the fact that Sennheiser recently updated HD 280 Pro yet decided to keep the non-detachable cable, is a massive disappointment. It is not difficult to see why they were soon coveted as the ultimate alternative monitoring headphone for recordists and DJs alike due to their light weight. For me, their tight-fit is very comfortable, but you'll need to take them off and let your ears 'breathe' every now and then. And to me--someone without an awful lot of head time in high end cans--these sound quite good for mixing applications as well.

These headphones have earned their place in the pantheon of audio equipment, celebrated for their quality and reliability. i noticed that when listening to my old mixes (done with my dynaudio's and my 280's) they sound less spacious and wide on the 600's as well as on other playback systems. The Sennheiser HD280 Pro headphones certainly have their fair share of drawbacks, particularly when it comes to sound. Even tho I might not completely agree with your conclusions(try comparing them against some truly analytic/neutral ones), I do think the HD280Pro is a decent set of cans. Today's headphone audience is much more style-conscious than the audience of 2003, when the HD280 Pro first launched.

The soundstage (the size of the perceived space, in which the musicians appear to be playing) is not as big as that of the Beyerdynamic DT series headphones, but it is not always a con.Even though I'm a freelancer now, PCMag has been my home for well over a decade, and audio gear reviews are still my primary focus. Like you said, it strikes that perfect balance between being great for reference but also as a casual listener as well.
