Kicking off with a classic, this simple Cadbury's calendar is surely what comes to mind when you think back to being a child at Christmas? That said, I have drunk enough beer in my life to know what I like and what I don't, and for a company to churn out 24 distinct (and I do mean distinct) flavours and to have them all be interesting and worth experiencing (if only once) is a pretty damn good achievement.

It puts some of the fruitier tones I'd expect of Punk IPA to the background and becomes more of a subtle experience, but it is one I will happily drink again and again. I discovered them back when I did Veganuary, when suddenly, simply because I couldn’t have just anything I gave myself crazy cravings for everything I *knew* was vegan – Oreos, original Pringles, Party Rings etc.What stood out to us was the generous size of the contents within each of the 25 drawers (no miniatures here), plus the variety – from jam and chutney to tea, coffee, chocolates and even homewares with a candle and Christmas decorations. That said, I was pleasantly surprised by a nicely flavoured beer with the taste of apricots pushing through in a pleasant way. There's a 75g wedge of artisan cheese to enjoy each day, and it arrives in three separate deliveries throughout December for maximum freshness.

This year Cadbury have also launched a wider range of calendars including a Heroes calendar and Chunk Calendar for a bit more variety.One last curve-ball in the final run-up to Christmas - I'm not much of a stout lover so I wasn't too excited for this. With a piece of the iconic sour candy behind each door the lead up to Christmas has never looked so tempting! A baked alternative to a classic Advent calendar, this jar is filled with buttery biscuits that are each intricately iced and numbered in festive designs, including penguins and baubles. They are SO zingy – think, Haribo cherries style zingy, without being made from boiled down animal bits – what’s not to love! What an odd experience, perfectly drinkable but with an undertone of something milky that I wouldn't expect to enjoy but I think I do? We would have loved a little more mystery and excitement, but still, this calendar does deliver intrigue in new flavours of gin and we liked the smart stripy packaging.

I completely appreciate that this is an acquired taste, as is cream soda judging by the response of disgust from my family, but I really ended up liking this in spite of my expectations. Hazy and Sour are two absolutely perfect descriptors for this - a seriously tart flavour that unfortunately I seem to have bad memories associated with the fruity/berry flavour of this one - I must have eaten a sweet similar to this in my childhood that disagreed with me. If I could tweak it I would make the fruitiness from Elvis a bit more prominent and tone down the hammer a little, but I still enjoyed drinking this, even if I think it may be a little too much for some folk. Cream Soda Lager is a pretty self-explanatory taste, it quite literally tastes like someone made a (strong) shandy using cream soda.
