Description

The novel is set in a world that's not familiar to us and many of the characters are mythical creatures. It may not fit quite the same, or work like it did once before, but that doesn't mean it's no longer useful. TJ Klune has so far written 29 novels, most of them focusing on the LGBTQ+ community, with many of them written in the fantasy genre.

For me, the message is a positive one and when it was released it was an incredibly appropriate one, as it first hit the bookshelves at the start of the pandemic! So from that I assumed that this book was supposed to be somewhat farcical, which I was not expecting in an adult fantasy book, but I went with it. Unfortunately he needs to be in a world where magical and non-human people are treated like monsters that need to be feared, to the point where some of the children believe it themselves. It takes a little time, and though he knows he’s meant to remain impartial, observing what the children are doing and how they interact with the man who cares for them, his heart opens up to this oddball group of children who have been treated with distrust and hatred by everyone for their whole lives. The House in The Cerulean Sea is a modern fairy tale about learning your true nature and what you love and will protect. Every day he looks at a mousepad covered with a faded image of a white sandy beach and a blue ocean and the tagline “don’t you wish you were here? As a Case Worker, Linus is sent to the Marsyas Island Orphanage, and has to set aside his fears to determine whether or not the Orphanage should remain open.

ETA: Seeing as this is getting some traction I thought I would add some links of places you can donate to support survivors(all these links I originally found through lisa. And at the Department in Charge of Magical Youth, he’s spent many dull years monitoring their orphanages. And that’s kind of the theme of the whole book is, is to raise your voice for those who don’t have one. Oz is where the magic happens, and where Linus suddenly connects with people, or at least, the children who live in the isolated orphanage. An enchanting story, masterfully told, The House in the Cerulean Sea is about the profound experience of discovering an unlikely family in an unexpected place—and realizing that family is yours.

know that these magical beings have been greatly reduced in numbers, separated from their homes, and then . Telling you not to judge people for what they look like or what you’ve been told, before you have a chance to make your own mind up.
