Description

I have the Makala MK-S Soprano but I’ve cheated and tuned it GDAE using a dedicated string set that Aquila produce for the purpose. These similarities are unsurprising as the man behind Kala, Mike Upton, started the company after leaving Hohner, Lanikai’s parent company. Whether you're a seasoned player or a beginner, the Tenor Mahogany Ukulele offers a timeless design and reliable performance, inviting you to explore the rich and melodic world of ukulele music. Soprano ukuleles are excellent for younger players due to their smaller size, but can be used by anyone for a mellow, light tone. It is an ok beginner ukulele but I recommend spending the extra 25-35 bucks and getting the Kala Ka-s.

If you’re the kind of person that doesn’t bash the strings quite so hard though you’re going to get the most out of this uke. I only mention this because Kala’s slightly more expensive models like the KA-S and KA-15S come with a Graph Tech “NuBone” nut and saddle.

Your donations all go back into the site to allow me to keep bringing you reviews, and in the end the ukuleles acquired are given to local schools and charities. There were a few minor imperfections here and there, but these issues were purely cosmetic and don’t affect tone or playability. The plastic nut and saddle, along with a single black strap button, add functional elements to this instrument without compromising its classic aesthetic.

In the hand it feels pretty decent too, the weight is pretty much bang on in terms of what I like (I’m a bit Goldilocks, not too light, not too heavy) and the distribution of the weight means it feels comfortable to play standing up too which isn’t always the case. I put Martin Fluorocarbon strings on both ukes and I found the white one sounds absolutely wonderful. The geared machineheads offer good tuning stability, as do the fitted Aquila strings (notwithstanding the usual ‘stretching’ that occurs).I didn’t notice any buzzing or high frets as I played up the neck, and the notes consistently rang out clear and clean. A great-value way to get started on a tenor, augment your current collection or break out into the world of electro ukulele's with a brand you can trust! musste sie bestimmt 10 mal nachstimmen, aber damit habe ich gerechnet, die Saiten sind eben aus Kunststoff. For that reason it sits in the living room, always on hand, and whenever she gets it out, I end up having a play too. While it’s not the same uke (the Dolphin has a plastic back and sides with an agathis top) and the sound is pretty different, in my opinion it’s on a par with the Dolphin in terms of value for money.

I’ve never been much of an equipment hound for whatever instrument I’ve played, but I have trouble finding any significant differences between these models – they both have a decent warmth of sound and hold in tune fairly well. I'll be visiting an old school friend and his wife in New Zealand over Christmas (2023) from Blighty.I DO NOT ALLOW WHOLESALE COPYING AND PASTING OF CONTENT FROM THIS SITE WITHOUT PERMISSION This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4. I’m from Malaysia and its hard for me to get an ukulele Kala Makala Dolphin Soprano Ukulele – Light Blue Burst. The Makala MK-S is a great uke for the money and is far better than the cheap ukuleles that are seemingly everywhere these days. In fact I’ve found myself playing this ukulele standing far more than any other that I own over the past few weeks. The Makala Dolphin is a soprano sized ukulele, which is the smallest of the three primary ukulele sizes.
