A collaboration between two prestigious distilleries, this premium rum marries 1 1 year cognac cask rum from Gray's distillery in Mauritius, with 8 year bourbon cask rum from Foursquare in Barbados.

Refreshingly unique, Equiano Light is an exceptional blend of lightly aged molasses rum from the Caribbean, fused with fresh sugar cane juice rum from Africa. The unique blend is created to celebrate the diversity of cultures that came together to make the rum possible. There is a bright fruit character to the palate, supported by hints of liquorice, which is well-rounded and lingers on the finish. Rich, notes of dried fruits such as raisins and sultanas combine with sweet toffee, butterscotch and caramel culminating with a suggestion of orange peel, vanilla and buttered wood.

The initial mouthfeel of this light rum is a medium sweet taste of ripe sugarcane, more tropical fruit and citrus peel, layered with green apples, pears and hints of vanilla and light oak on the palate. The aged Barbadian component takes centre stage here, as the tropical aging of the rum, in once used American oak barrels, leaves a light dusting of wood on the finish.

Introduced as the world`s first Afro-Caribbean rum, Equiano is co-created by Global Rum Ambassador Ian Burrell. The liquid is a limited batch blend from one of the best emerging distilleries in the world, Gray’s in Mauritius, and the world-renowned Barbadian distillery: Foursquare. I received a sample of this rum in this year's (2021) MoM Advent calendar and thus far (17 days in) it has been one of the highlights. The rum continues these beliefs by donating company profits to ground-level freedom and equality projects.
