About this deal

I make a round oak top, and (partially my fault here) did all my final sanding on the top surface all the way to 180 grit before stain, but i did not wipe it down with mineral spirits which could have showed me the 3 puck marks on the surface from when I’d been working on the bottom and it was flipped over. Because the T-nut should not protrude above the surface, I made a shallow opening with a Forstner bit of 24 mm. Also, You can use Bench cookies to raise your workpiece, creating space for milling or cutting work.

Rockler sells risers but I have found that I can use 3/4 inch dowels and glue a bolt in the end after drilling and get the same effect. That gives me the opportunity to confirm a bolt for the other functions that I discuss further in this blog. I tested the cookies too, I didn’t get stain on them, I rubbed them all over white paper and can’t see anything they leave behind…but it was definitely there on the wood. Just as a tire can become clogged with mud and all traction can be lost these cookies have to be kept clean. Other than that, they definitely make sanding a lot easier, and I didn’t notice any residue from the rubber pads.

You can also use these bench cookies with a soft surface if you want to prevent scratches on your workpiece.

All content on The Wood Whisperer is copyrighted, and may not be reprinted in full form without my written consent. A couple of panels I had were around 1/4″ thick, and the cookies tended to slide around due to the vibration of the orbital sander. For those who haven’t, they are little “puck-shaped doo-dads” with a bit of soft gripping rubber on each side. These versatile tools provide a stable and non-slip surface to hold workpieces securely in place during routing tasks. Then I placed a chamfer bit in my router with which I beveled the edges of the surfaces at an angle of 45 degrees. After watching the video, you can continue reading the step-by-step guide to making these bench cookies yourself. Have not used mine yet but I am about ready to make four end grain cutting boards a la Woodwhisperer and will then be able to give them a work out. Whether you need support or elevation, the Bench Cookies are perfect for enhancing your router jig project.

The bench cookie not only helps lock your workpiece down to your bench but also keeps it up off the work surface to allow for edge treatment applications and other applications. While we have talked about the bench cookie quite highly there are a few cons of the bench cookie we have to discuss. As we just discussed the issue with the sawdust stains and finishes are no different in this scenario. A third feature is that the bench cookies can be linked together to create an elevated bench cookie. After pressing the glue for a while and allowing it to dry, I removed most of the residue of the anti-slip with scissors. Throughout a prolific 20-year career in landscape gardening, he frequently collaborated with wood, crafting intricate garden constructions. And A one doctor Dinojawa (Think I’m spelling that right if not sorry doctor) At the university of Ackron ohio has used carbon nano tubes to recreate that effect its really cool stuff. With a washer and nut on each side, I was able to press these firmly together and make sure they were not loose on the threaded rod. Today, Christophe stands as a trusted figure in the woodworking community, disseminating knowledge via his authoritative in-depth blog.

This comes in handy if, for example, you want to cut a sheet of plywood with a jigsaw on a circular saw. I use this for a long time to make pushsticks, because its thickness of 0,2″ allows me to move is over the blade with only sawing rubber, not pushsticks. After removing the discs from the threaded rod, I could now cut the pieces of anti-slip material to size. If you followed the AWFS news recently you probably heard enough about these little puck-shaped doo-dads.I doubt it geckos use hairs on their feet which are so small they actually create a Van der Waals force with the molecules of whatever material they are climbing on at the time, Van der Waals force is essentially any attraction between molecules or atoms not caused by either covalent or ionic bonds. Will you need a lot of elevated bench cookies, or is it enough for a few bench cookies to support your materials? However, there are millions of products and services on the web, and I only promote those products or services that I would use personally. To finish the slices and to give them all the same look and diameter I placed the discs on a threaded rod. The idea is to not only elevate your work off the bench for sanding and routing tasks (with no clamps), but to also stop the workpiece from sliding.
