This can happen even if the rope is “tied well” each time. Remember, the type of rope bondage we practice is inherently dangerous and injury (including micro-injury) happens even to experienced bottoms being tied well by experienced tops. Nerve damage is the most insidious danger of rope bondage. It can happen instantly or gradually over multiple scenes. It can be masked by circulation problems. It can heal in an hour or a month or a year … or never. If the injury includes some loss of mobility, you should consider first-aid treatment as indicated below, monitor closely, and seek professional help if mobility does not improve within a 24-48 hours.

The first leg of a two legged tie is always played at home, and the home team will have the advantage. In a two-legged tie, the team that scores more goals will win. If the match ends in a draw, a replay can be held at either the second-leg venue or neutral venue. Compression-related injuries in the torso and hips tend to result mainly in sensation loss rather than limitations in movement, but these can still create challenges to normal movement and functions. The major areas to watch here are along the side of the ribcage, along the top of the hip bones, and along the “panty line” in the crease of the leg and thigh. Major Nerves to Consider When ties are tied at the end of 90 minutes, extra time is played. If both teams cannot score in the extra time, they will have penalty shootouts. If the teams are still tied after the extra time, the match will go to sudden death. Once the ties have been settled, the winners will be the team with the most goals after extra time. The tie doesn’t have to be done exactly this way; you can do ties of similar function while alternating the number of wraps, where they’re placed, etc. The important steps are: Results of Compression: Decreased sensation, numbness, tingling, or a burning sensation along the inner side of the lower leg and/or calf could indicate compression of the saphenous nerve.Legend: Red = Radial Nerve | Blue = Median Nerve | Green = Ulnar Nerve General Nerve Paths in “Arms Behind” Position The major areas to consider in the leg are around the knee and ankle. Avoid tight rope around either location to minimize the chance of compression. The anthropometric differences among starting and non-starting players in Gaelic soccer may be related to the differing demands of match play. A recent study of one elite team in Australia found positional differences in the sum of seven skinfolds. The researchers did not find significant differences between the non-starters and starters, suggesting that further research is needed to better understand positional differences in elite Gaelic soccer. It’s also worth noting here that repetitive injury, to one degree or another, seems to be fairly common among experienced rope bottoms. This means that the nerve (and usually the same nerve or group of nerves, typically related to the same tie and similar placement) is stressed incrementally over many different rope sessions — none of which are severe enough to cause noticeable injury individually. However, over time, those micro-injuries can add up until a particular rope session causes the injury to become apparent. Continue spiraling the rope up the leg after the first wrap; at least three more is the norm. Make sure your wraps don’t go too high; you don’t want your rope slipping off over the knee.

The European Club Association has yet to decide whether to adopt a two legged format for club competitions. But one possibility is to make the ties single-leg. This would create more excitement in the competition, but some UEFA officials are against it. While the decision is not final, Aleksander Ceferin, the president of the UEFA, has hinted at a change. In the second leg, the winners of each game advance to the final. The winner advances automatically to the UEFA Champions League. In the event that the tie is level after extra time, the team that finished higher in the league table will advance. UEFA does not use away goals for the Serie A two-legged finals. Here’s an example of a very similar tie, made more comfortable by bunching the wraps together so the tension is more evenly distributed across the front of the shin. I can’t actually think of any, off the top of my head. It’s a reasonably safe tie, because all the major blood vessels and vulnerable bits are on the insides of the legs, away from the rope. Rope Placement: Rope passed over the hips and loaded in face-down suspension is particularly likely to cause compression. This is the nerve most-commonly injured by ties that include rope around the hips. 8 See “ Rope Incident Report – Injury to the Lateral Femoral Cutaneous Nerve” for detailed discussion

What is RopeSensei?

More-Vulnerable Locations: As it runs along the iliac crest (top of hip bone) and along the crease of the leg and hip. (Note that this positioning is similar to the femoral nerve.)

The longer the rope is on the body, the greater the risk. One implication is that “more intense” or “more risky” rope should be shorter in duration. Another implication is that the top’s control and efficiency are an important safety factor.Once a bottom indicates that they’re experiencing numbness due to circulation, the burden shifts to the top to closely monitor for signs of nerve compression. And if the bottom allows the tie to continue tothe point of one or more limbs going completely numb, the top must monitor closely and continually. In those situations, the bottom should recognize the additional risks they are taking. Now, I could have put a bit more time and effort into making this a bit more symmetrical and pretty, but it was a hot afternoon, and there was a lot to do. So I didn’t bother. You get the principles of it. Moving to the inside of the leg, slant your top wrap down so that it intersects with the middle wrap. Be careful to maintain your tension the whole time – you want your wraps to stay where they are. A two-legged total point series is the preferred format for Gaelic soccer. This format was first used in the National Soccer League in 1997 and was used from 1998 to 2013. Since then, it has been used for the International Rules Series. The Canadian Soccer League and its predecessor leagues have also occasionally used this format. In 1986, the finals were held over two legs and were decided by a two-legged total point series. More-Vulnerable Locations: Along the side of the rib cage. This nerve is particularly vulnerable due to extreme flexion (arms tie overhead, for example).

Decreased sensation, numbness, tingling, or a burning sensationin a given area of the hand can indicate possible nerve compression or damage to the corresponding nerve somewhere along the arm (see the diagram below). Rope Placement: Waist and hip rope that is loaded in an inversion is particularly likely to cause compression. One of our first ventures into bondage as a couple came through rope play. Our introduction to bondage came through the use of silk ties and cuffs to bind wrists and ankles, but we found these to be quite expensive and very restrictive (pardon the pun) in their use. By that I mean, they were made for one purpose only. With that in mind Ellie had suggested shibari rope as something to have a go at. Initial searches of shibari and bondage rope often provide you with folk presenting intricate binds with beautiful rope in gorgeous settings, and that can be pretty daunting. But as with all creative endeavours, there is a place to start and learn, and build upon.
