Before Star Wars, before A Game of Thrones, Frank Herbert brought to blazing life a feudalistic future of relentless political intrigue and insidious treachery, a grandly operatic vision – half-Wagner, half-spaghetti western – of a hero discovering his destiny. The first adventure in the Folio Society editions of ‘The Magic Faraway Tree’ series, Enid Blyton’s The Enchanted Wood features Jonathan Burton’s enchanting illustrations and a new introduction by Michael Morpurgo. Featuring extraordinary illustrations by Clive Hicks-Jenkins and an exclusive introduction by Janina Ramirez, each of the 750 numbered copies has been signed by both contributors. Marcus is the founder and lead editor of Dune News Net, on top of his marketing role at a major player in the entertainment industry. And it is across its vast expanses and in its arid caves that Frank Herbert’s epic adventure of political subterfuge and messianic deliverance is played out, a story that has become the best-selling science-fiction novel of all time, and is considered by many to be the genre’s greatest work.

It is a universe of ‘traps within traps’, of human computers, secretive witch-cults and fanatic warriors, all with their own intricate histories and intentions. After attending the Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary, Sam moved to New York to pursue illustration and attend graduate school at The School of Visual Arts. Featuring a fascinating introduction by Val McDermid and new illustrations by Juan Esteban Rodríguez, each copy has been signed by both the introducer and the illustrator. It always depends on the project, but in the case of these deluxe editions it’s a very freeing and trusting process. After the novel’s publication in 1965, it won both the Hugo and Nebula awards, going on to sell over 12 million copies, and spawning five sequels, as well as multiple board games, computer games, television series and feature films. In the construction of Dune Herbert drew on a range of influences, both literary and scientific, from the origin stories of the Abrahamic desert religions and T. Full color illustrated boards, bright, clean, tight, appears unread, no stickers or markings, slightest handling. Griffin was asked whether this has made it more challenging to present his own artistic interpretation of Dune and how he decided on which imagery to go with for the illustrated endpapers. DELUXE EDITION : The first graphic novel adaptation of Dune , the groundbreaking science-fiction classic by Frank Herbert--now in a deluxe collector's edition.

A deluxe hardcover version of Frank Herbert’s original Dune novel was released by Ace Books on October 1, 2019.A stunning blend of adventure and mysticism, environmentalism and politics, Dune won the first Nebula Award, shared the Hugo Award, and formed the basis of what is undoubtedly the grandest epic in science fiction. Frank Herbert’s epic masterpiece—a triumph of the imagination and one of the bestselling science fiction novels of all time. The artist also described the level of creative freedom he experienced when working on artwork for these deluxe editions of the Dune books, as well as his collaboration with both the publisher and Herbert estate. Widely considered one of the greatest works within the sci-fi genre, Dune has been the subject of various film and TV adaptations, including the Academy Award winning 2021 film Dune directed by Denis Villeneuve. A limited run of 250 copies include three different art prints in a protective rice paper sleeve, each signed by different members of the creative team?

More so for newcomers, for whom Denis Villeneuve’s cinematic vision is their first exposure to this universe. To become a hero, let alone a messiah, is to cut oneself off from all others; to watch friends sink into worshipers; to loose forces that may be impossible to control; ultimately, after sowing the wind, to reap the whirlwind. I want the viewer to feel like they’re there as much as possible, as I am when I’m reading the book and making the images. The Duke of Atreides has been manoeuvred by his arch-enemy, Baron Harkonnen, into administering the desert planet of Dune. This deluxe edition is very handsome with blue edging to all the pages and sits nicely on the book shelf, rather than looking like some cheap derivative sci-fi book that the front covers of the earlier editions tended to look like. His current project is a reconsideration of popular fiction during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Frank Herbert’s classic masterpiece—a triumph of the imagination and one of the bestselling science fiction novels of all time. In 1959 he began work on his most famous work, Dune, which was serialised by Analog magazine between 1963 and 1965. It’s an open brief, I’m allowed to come up with my own suggestions for images which are then sent over to the art director Adam Auerbach for feedback and then approval from the Herbert estate. So I guess maybe I did lean a little more into scene-inspiration for these but, hopefully, with a lot of atmosphere.
